The Aces have made the playoffs each of the last six years and enter year four under coach Becky Hammon. The Aces traded Kelsey Plum, but snagged Jewell Loyd, which could actually be an upgrade. A’ja Wilson is arguably the best player in the league and gives the Aces a chance every night she’s on the court. Jackie Young is in the prime of her career, and the health of Chelsea Gray would go a long way.
The Aces will also get a boost with the return of Elizabeth Kitley after she missed last year with a torn ACL. At full strength, the Aces should probably be favored to win the title. The Aces are a good bet to win their third championship in the last four years.
New York Liberty Betting Preview
The Liberty are coming off their first title in franchise history and enter year four under coach Sandy Brondello. The Liberty have made the finals in the last two seasons. The Liberty bring back their big three of Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Sabrina Ionescu, which is as good as it gets in the WNBA. The addition of Natasha Cloud should take pressure off of Ionescu to do so much and creates an even scarier offense. Marine Johannes is also back after missing all of last season. The Liberty are probably deeper than they were last season, and the core of their roster is in their prime. It’s not easy to repeat, but the Liberty have the pieces to keep the party going in New York.

The Liberty are going to be favored at home for obvious reasons, as they’re the defending champs and bring back the core that got it done. However, getting the Aces in the underdog role always has value given the talent and experience on this roster. You’re not going to get the Aces as underdogs much this season. And while the Liberty have won seven of the last nine games against the Aces, it’s the underdog that’s 6-2-1 ATS in those games.
As previously mentioned, the Aces should probably be the betting favorite to win the title this season, and seeing the Liberty celebrate before the game should create a fire in the belly. I expect a motivated Aces team that wants to make an early statement. The value is with the Aces and the points.
