Terrance Arceneaux has 7.2 PPG with 2.9 RPG and Joseph Tugler’s added 5.4 PPG and 5.7 RPG. As a team, Houston’s averaging 74.2 PPG on 45.8% shooting from the field, 39.8% from three and 74.1% from the foul line this season.

I’m on Houston in this one. I think I’m at a point where I need a few more points to consider Tennessee in this spot, even though Houston was just in a close call against Purdue. The Cougars let Purdue hang around in that game after taking a huge second half lead, but I don’t think the Cougars have another mental lapse here. I think Tennessee has had a nice run but this just feels like another spot where they come up short. Give me Houston in this one to get back to the Final Four.

Tennessee comes into this matchup after a disappointing outcome in the SEC Championship game, but they have had a great season and they are big favorites to win this game. The Volunteers were one of the top teams in the SEC this season and even though their defense has struggled a little down the stretch, they are still one of the better defenses in the country. Wofford was very average during the regular season in the SoCon, but they were able to string three wins together and overcome a late deficit against Furman in the title game. Tennessee should have no issue scoring in this matchup and I think they are going to dominate both ends of the floor. Wofford had a great run in the conference tournament, but I like Tennessee to win this game by 20+ points.

Florida Gators Betting Preview

The Florida Gators (29-4, 25-8 ATS) were in excellent form entering the SEC tournament as they won nine of the last ten regular-season games. The lone loss came to Georgia, after which Florida bounced back with victories over Texas A&M, Alabama, and Ole Miss to secure the No. 2 seed. The Gators had an easy job against Missouri and Alabama in the previous two rounds of the tournament.

Florida is averaging 84.8 PPG (8th) and is allowing 68.6 PPG (74th). The Gators are getting 42.1 RPG (4th) and dish out 16.0 APG (56th). Walter Clayton Jr. is the team’s top performer with 17.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, a team-high 4.4 APG, and 1.3 SPG. Alijah Martin has 14.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.4 APG, and a team-high 1.7 SPG, while Will Richard contributes 13.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 1.7 SPG.

Florida vs Tennessee Prediction

Tennessee won seven of the previous ten H2H encounters, including five of the last seven. The series is tied at 1-1 this season; Florida destroyed Tennessee 73-63 in January, while Tennessee secured an easy 64-44 win in February. Eight of the last ten H2Hs went Under and each of the previous four. I expect another low-scoring affair on Sunday even though Florida has been outstanding offensively so far at the tournament. Tennessee managed to keep one of the best teams in the country, Auburn, to 65 points in the semis, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vols limit the Gators to below 70 in this one. Tennessee has no chance if this turns out to be a classic shootout. Go with Under.

Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview

Alabama has been quite the consistent team all season. They’ve got just five defeats so far, with only one instance of consecutive losses. The Tide kicked things off with a 6-2 stretch featuring defeats by Purdue and Oregon. A win streak over North Carolina, Creighton, North Dakota, Kent State, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas A&M came next before another loss to Ole Miss. Alabama would beat Kentucky, Vanderbilt, LSU, Mississippi State, Georgia, Arkansas and Texas in the next seven before losses to Auburn and Missouri. Since then it’s been wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State however, which gives the Crimson Tide a 23-5 record across their first 28 games of the 2024-25 campaign so far.

In the Mississippi State game on Tuesday, the Tide came out of the first half sporting a dominant 53-27 advantage. Alabama cruised the rest of the way on a 58-46 second half and took the easy blowout win 111-73. Leading the way was Chris Youngblood with 27 points, three rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes. Mark Sears wasn’t close behind with 21 points, 10 assists, three rebounds and three steals for a double-double. Leading the bench scorers was Aden Holloway with 13 points and five assists, while Mouhamed Dioubate doubled up on 10 bench points and 11 rebounds in 17 minutes of work.

Over on the Tennessee side, they had a bit of a choppy run going back in January but outside of that it’s been a great year in the record column so far. The Volunteers stormed out of the gate with a 14-game win streak that lasted from November 4 to January 7 when the team took their first defeat at the hands of Florida (a road loss). A 3-3 run came next with losses to Vanderbilt, Auburn and Kentucky among wins over Texas, Georgia and Mississippi State. Since then it’s been a 6-1 run with a loss to Kentucky amid wins over Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M and LSU. In total that gives the Volunteers a 23-5 overall record across their first 28 games of the season so far.

Matched up against LSU in their Tuesday game, the Vols held a 26-23 edge by the break. Tennessee kept it going in the second half with a 39-36 run and took the eventual victory 65-59. Tops in scoring was Zakai Zeigler with 17 points, two steals and three assists. Felix Okpara added 15 points with seven boards and two blocks, while Chaz Lanier chipped in on 14 points with nine rebounds in 36 minutes of work during the victory.

I’ll probably go with Alabama here. The Tide cruised right on past Mississippi State in a home win during their last outing, shooting a nice 52.1 percent from the field, 48.9 percent (22-of-45) from 3-point range and 15-of-18 (83.3 percent) from the line. Alabama also scooped up 42 rebounds and had an impressive 28 team assists along the way. Defensively the Tide held a pretty good Bulldogs team to just 38.4 percent shooting from the field. Alabama is on a scoring tear these days, with 85 or more points in 11 straight games (a 9-2 run).

As for Tennessee, they didn’t shoot great (41.1 percent) in their latest win over LSU but made up for it on a 44-28 rebounding edge. The Vols have been a mixed bag when it comes to scoring totals lately, but the defense has been strong. It’ll be interesting to see what they can do against the Alabama offense. Should be a great game to watch.

The defense has been elite for this team in more games than not and in this game, the defense is going to need to be good. 

Which Kentucky Team Shows Up?

Two games ago against Ole Miss, Kentucky scored 84 points, but the defense gave up 98 points, and that led to the 14-point defeat. In the last game against South Carolina, Kentucky scored 80 points while the defense gave up 57 points and that was enough for the easy victory. Kentucky shot 48.4 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Kentucky comes into this game with a 16-7 record overall and they have gone 11-11-1 against the spread. Kentucky is averaging 86.7 points while their defense is giving up 77.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 3rd in the league while the defense is ranked 307th in the league. They are averaging 17.91 assists per game which is 9th in the league. There are six different players that put up at least 10 points. Kentucky will meet Texas after this game. 

Kentucky vs Tennessee Prediction

Tennessee’s defense is going to step up in a big way here. Tennessee’s defense is giving up 59.3 points per game, which is 3rd best in the league. Kentucky’s offense is averaging 86.7 points per game, but against an elite defense, they are going to really struggle to get the offense going here. It might be close in the first half, but Tennessee is going to pull away. Back Tennessee against the spread. Tennessee will win this game by at least a couple of buckets.

The Oklahoma Sooners come into this game looking to bounce back from a 98-70 loss to Auburn last time out to fall to 16-6 on the year. After this game, Oklahoma will head on the road to take on Missouri.

Jalon Moore leads Oklahoma in scoring and rebounding with 18.2 PPG and 6.1 RPG while Jeremiah Fears has 15.9 PPG with 3.9 RPG and a team-high 4.3 APG to lead the Sooners in assists so far this season. Duke Miles has 10.6 PPG with 2.2 APG and 1.5 SPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for Oklahoma so far this season. Kobe Elvis has 8.6 PPG with 3.4 APG while Brycen Goodine has 8.4 PPG and Sam Godwin has 6 PPG and 5.4 RPG so far this season. As a team, Oklahoma is averaging 79.4 PPG on 48.3% shooting from the field, 37.2% from three and 80% from the foul line this season.

Oklahoma vs Tennessee Prediction

I’m on Oklahoma and the points in this one. I know Tennessee is one of the best defensive units in the country and I agree that they’ve earned the respect enough to lay this kind of number on the road. However, Oklahoma is no slouch and I think Norman will be rocking for this game for Tennessee to come to town. The Sooners were also humiliated in that blowout loss to Auburn, and I have to think that the Sooners will be out to get that taste out of their mouths and will be hungry to make amends here. It won’t be easy, but Tennessee has allowed 70+ in three straight road games and 78+ in two of their last three games overall. I’ll side with Oklahoma and the points here.

Missouri Tigers Betting Preview

The Tigers really only have one spotty three-game span in the books so far this year. Otherwise, they’ve only posted a couple of defeats amid a flurry of victories. Missouri lost to Memphis in their opener, then took out Howard, Eastern Washington, MS Valley State, Pacific, AR-Pine Bluff, Lindenwood, Cal, Kansas, Long Island U, and Jacksonville State in the next 10 games. The Tigers would fall to Illinois and Auburn in the next three (around a win over Alabama State), then beat LSU, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Arkansas. Following another loss to Texas, the Tigers beat Ole Miss and Mississippi State for a 17-4 overall record through the first 21 games.

In their Saturday matchup with Mississippi State, the Tigers came out of the locker room looking up at a 45-31 advantage. Missouri kept it going in the second half with a 43-30 run and took the eventual blowout road win 88-61 in the end. Caleb Grill came off the bench to lead the team with 20 points, two assists, and one rebound. Josh Gray had a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Tops among the starters in the victory was Tamar Bates, who notched 14 points with three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of work.

Tennessee Volunteers Betting Preview

Over on the Volunteers’ side, they kicked off the season with a flurry of victories. Tennessee has gone on a meandering .500 run since January 7, however. The Vols took out Gardner-Webb, Louisville, Montana, Austin Peay, Virginia, Baylor, TN-Martin, Syracuse, Miami, Illinois, Western Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Norfolk State, and Arkansas in their opening 14 outings. It’s been a 4-4 run since then with losses to Florida, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Kentucky amid wins over Texas, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Florida. The result so far has been an 18-4 overall record through the first 22 games of the season for the Volunteers.

Matched up against Florida on Saturday, the Vols held a three-point edge going into the second half. Tennessee got much better from there on a 40-23 run and took the eventual victory 64-44 in the end. Tops in scoring was Chaz Lanier with 19 points and five rebounds, while Jordan Gainey added 16 points with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Felix Okpara also finished in double-figures with 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. All of the team’s bench points (seven) came from Cade Phillips alongside three rebounds in 28 minutes.

Why the Tennessee Volunteers will win

• Tennessee has won each of its last 27 Wednesday games at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.
• Missouri has lost 15 of its last 17 night games against the Southeastern Conference.
• The home team has won the first half in each of Tennessee’s last five games.

Why the Missouri Tigers will win

• Missouri has won 10 of its last 11 night games.
• Tennessee has lost each of its last three games following a home win.
• Missouri has won the first half in six of its last seven games against the Southeastern Conference.

Tennessee vs Missouri Prediction

I’ll just stay with Tennessee here. The Volunteers are coming off a very effective game (at least defensively) against the Gators. Tennessee held Florida to just 24.5 percent shooting from the field and 14.8 percent (4-of-27) from 3-point range. the 40-37 rebounding advantage was nice, as were the nine points off 13 Florida turnovers. The Volunteers have been a mixed bag as far as scoring—and winning—lately. They’ve been below 69 points in three of the last four games (a 2-2 run) but generally, they’re still playing pretty good defense.

As for Missouri, they’re coming off a very impressive road win over Mississippi State this past weekend. The Tigers shot an excellent 55 percent from the field in that one while holding the Bulldogs to just 36.4 percent on the other side. Missouri is cooking during this 6-1 stretch, posting 75 or more points in each win during that time. Generally, the Tigers are keeping other teams in check on the scoreboard as well. This matchup could go a lot of different ways, but in the end, I like the Vols to eke one out at home. It’ll be one of the highlights of the Wednesday schedule.

Florida Has Confidence 

Florida has confidence heading ino this game and they have won three games in a row. Two games ago against South Carolina it wasn’t the most dominant game but they were able to secure 70-69 victory. In the last game against Georgia it was a more dominant game and they were able to secure the 89-59 victory. Walter clayton Jr had a strong game putting  17 points, five assists, and three rebounds. There were five different players that put up at least 13 points to pace the team. 

Florida is averaging 85.2 points per game, while their defense is giving up 65.4 points per game. He offense is ranked 7th in the league while the defense is ranked 34th. This is a balanced attack and one of the most complete teams. Walter Clayton Jr has been the top player for this team and he is averaging 17.8 points while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from behind the three point line line. 

Tennessee Suddenly Struggling 

Tenneesse is really struggling heading into this game and they have lost two straight games. Two games ago against Auburn, they lost 53-51, and in the last game against Kentucky, they lost 78-73. In the second half they were outscored 48-40 and that led to teh defeat. Tennessee shot 34.7 percent from the field and 24.4 percent from behind the three point line. In this game if Tennessee wants to find success they are going to need to shoot a higher percentage. 

The Volunteers are averaging 75 points while their defense is giving up 59.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 172nd in the league while the defense is ranked 4th in the league. Chaz Lanier is averaging 17.8 points while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from behind the  three point line. There are four different players that are averaging at least 10 points per game. The defensiive rating is 90.2 which is 3rd in the league. Chaz Lanier is averaging 17.8 points while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from behind the three point line. 

Tennessee vs Florida Prediction

Tennessee is struggling to head into this game, and I don’t trust the defense here. The Gators are averaging 85.2 points per game, and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. Tennessee is averaging 75 points per game, but their offense isn’t going to even reach this number. Kentucky is going to get out to a fast start, and they will cruise here. Back Florida against the spread.
