George Washington Revolutionaries Betting Preview

The Revolutionaries opened the year on a pretty good run, but struggled in January and February before pulling things together recently. George Washington opened the year on a 7-1 run with a lone loss to Kansas State. After a loss to American, the Revolutionaries won six of the next seven games versus Old Dominion, Army, Lafayette, UVA Wise, Dayton and Rhode Island. Next came a three-game losing streak versus Duquesne, George Mason and UMass. A tough stretch of 5-5 ball followed as George Washington won versus Saint Louis, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Davidson and UMass among losses to La Salle, George Mason, VCU, Saint Joseph’s and Loyola Chicago otherwise. Since then the Revolutionaries have beaten La Salle and Fordham (twice) during a three-game win streak to bring their record to 21-11 overall.

On Thursday versus Fordham, the Revolutionaries opened on a 43-35 edge in the first half. George Washington scored 45 more points from there in an 88-81 win. Leading scorer Trey Autry finished with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists.

George Mason Patriots Betting Preview

Over on the George Mason side, they sputtered a bit in their opening run and haven’t been too sharp lately but otherwise it’s been a very solid season. The Patriots went a tepid 7-4 over their first 11 games this year, then beat Penn, Mount St. Mary’s and Davidson before another loss to Rhode Island. Wins over Richmond, UMass, Dayton, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, Loyola, Davidson, George Washington, Rhode Island, Saint Louis and Saint Joseph’s came next, but the next three were a 1-2 run. Those losses were versus VCU and Duquesne with a win over Fordham in between. Since then however, it’s been consecutive wins over La Salle and Richmond. That gives the Patriots a 24-7 overall run across 31 games this year so far.

In the Richmond road matchup on Saturday, the Patriots held a 32-24 deficit in the first half. George Mason woke up in the second half on a 40-28 run and took the comeback victory 64-60 in the end. Topping the scorers was Darius Maddox with 18 points and three rebounds. Jalen Haynes added 13 points with eight rebounds in 22 minutes, and Brayden O’Connor chipped in with nine points, two assists and one rebound. Tops off the bench in the victory was Giovanni Emejuru with eight points and five rebounds.

George Mason vs George Washington Prediction

I’ll lean toward George Mason, but you could call this one either way. It should be close. Regardless, the Patriots need a better effort than they got in their matchup with a struggling Richmond team. George Mason shot just 40 percent from the field with 12 turnovers in that one, and hit a tepid 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from the line. The good news is that the Patriots owned the boards 36-27 and held the Spiders to just 39.2 percent from the field. George Mason has been below 70 points in three straight games though, so it’d be nice to see them eclipse that threshold in this tournament matchup.

These teams have met twice already with George Mason taking both. The Patriots won 53-50 in the road game February 5 and 80-77 in double-overtime at home on January 18. During the most recent matchup, neither team shot well (both under 40.5 percent) and it was a sloppy overall game with George Mason committing 15 of the 33 total turnovers. The Patriots’ foul shooting was pretty ugly as well at 10-of-18 (55.6 percent). Needless to say, there’s a lot to fix in this tournament matchup. I’m leaning slightly toward the Patriots but it’s a coin flip.

Army Black Knights Betting Preview

Army posted a .500 run through their first six games this year, taking losses to Duke, Marist, and Manhattan along the way. After consecutive wins over SUNY-Maritime and Le Moyne, the Knights fell into the loss column again versus Cornell.

In the Cornell game on Sunday, the Knights were looking at a 49-32 deficit by halftime. Army kept the pace well from there but still lost big 103-84. Both Josh Scovens and Jalen Rucker scored a team-high 17 points while AJ Allenspach doubled on 12 points and 11 boards. Army will face Binghamton, UTSA, Colgate, and Boston U following this one. 

George Washington Revolutionaries Betting Preview

Over on the George Washington side, they lost just one of their first eight games, beating Mercyhurst. Hampton, NC A&T, NJIT, Louisiana, Illinois State, and VMI. Game nine was a tough overtime loss to American, however.

In their matchup versus Old Dominion last weekend, the Revolutionaries got back into the win column. George Washington scored 34 in the first half and 44 in the second for a 78-70 win. Christian Jones led the team off the bench with 17 points and three rebounds.

I’m likely staying with George Washington. The Revolutionaries were able to keep a struggling Old Dominion team in check over the weekend, hitting 46.9 percent from the field with 18 points off 14 Monarchs turnovers. GW does have a few things to clean up though: namely the 23-of-37 (62.2 percent) from the line, the 12 turnovers, and the 40-36 rebounding deficit. That said, George Washington has scored 71 or more points in all 10 games so far and should notch a solid total here as well.

As for Army, they gave up 55.9 percent shooting to Cornell in their last outing and simply couldn’t keep pace. The Knights are scoring very well lately also, with 79 or more points in seven straight. I like a high total here with the Revolutionaries powering it out.

Illinois State Coming off Close Victory

Illinois State faced off against UAB in the last game, and it was a close game, but they were able to secure the 84-83 victory. At halftime, they were down by four points, but in the second half, they scored 45 points on the way to the victory. The offense is ranked 111th in the league while the defense is ranked 116th. In this game, Illinois State is going to need the offense to be good again early.

George Washington Revolutionaries

The Revolutionaries lost just two of their first eight games this year versus UIC and South Carolina. George Washington is a nice 8-2 since then with wins over Navy, Coppin State, Bowie State, Alcorn State, MD-Eastern Shore, VCU, Davidson and George Mason in that stretch.

In their last matchup versus UMass, George Washington fell back into the loss column. The Revolutionaries were doing okay with a 31-31 halftime score, but then hit a 50-36 deficit the rest of the way for an 81-67 result. Back on Saturday versus Davidson, the Spiders had a close call. Richmond scored 34 points in the first half, 28 in the second and hit a 7-2 run in overtime for a 69-64 victory. Jordan King was the team’s leading contributor on 24 points, two rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes of work.

ANDREW’S FREE GEORGE WASHINGTON VS RICHMOND PREDICTION

I’ll stick with the Spiders. This should be a pretty fun matchup regardless, though. Richmond barely escaped a scrappy Davidson team in their last outing, shooting 40 percent from the field with a 43-38 rebounding edge. The scoring hasn’t quite been there for the Spiders lately; they’ve been below 70 points in five of the last six games but they’re still getting it done on defense.

As for George Washington, they’re scoring well overall this year with 67 or more points in all 18 games. Richmond is going to have to slow down the pace here and keep the defense stout in order to cover, but I think they’ll get it done. The Revolutionaries will likely make things interesting however.

VCU Rams 

VCU posted a decent 16-6 record over their first 22 games of the season. The Rams have gone a nice 7-1 in the eight games since, taking out Davidson, Saint Louis, Rhode Island, Fordham, Saint Joseph’s, Richmond and Saint Louis again in that time. 

On Tuesday in the rematch versus the Billikens, VCU trailed 35-31 going into the second half. The Rams went on a 48-32 run from there and won it 79-67 in comeback fashion. Jalen DeLoach posted 14 points and five rebounds to lead the way. 

George Washington Colonials 

Over on the George Washington side, they went on a .500 run at 11-11 through their first 22 games. The Colonials are 5-3 in their last eight outings, beating Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, La Salle and Davidson along the way. 

Matched up against Davidson on Wednesday, the Colonials went into the second half facing a 32-26 deficit. George Washington hit a 49-38 second and took the comeback win 75-70. James Bishop had a nice game on 26 points, four assists and three boards.

I’m going to take a stab on George Washington. The Colonials are fresh off a nice comeback win over a decent Davidson team and they’ve now won four straight games. George Washington has hit 75 or more points in all four of those outings. As for VCU, they got a nice all-around team effort in their last matchup versus Saint Louis. The Rams have won five straight themselves with 73 or more points scored in four of those. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, and I like George Washington well enough to take them on a cover.

George Washington Colonials 

George Washington managed to stay above .500 through 20 games, going 11-9 overall. The Colonials are a sketchy 2-5 since then however, falling to Fordham, La Salle, Duquesne, Saint Joseph’s and George Mason in their last seven. 

On Sunday versus St. Bonaventure, the Colonials scored 32 points in the first half, 40 in the second and 11 in overtime on the way to an 83-81 win. Leading scorer Brendan Adams had 28 points, and James Bishop added 25 points with six assists. 

Rhode Island Rams

Over on the Rhode Island side, they were just 6-13 at the 19-game mark this year. The Rams are 2-5 in their last seven games as well, taking losses to Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis, George Mason, VCU and UMass in their last quintet of outings. 

Matched up against UMass on Saturday, the Rams were down 34-26 going into the second half. Rhode Island was outscored 35-19 from there and lost 69-45. Ishmael Leggett wast tops on the team with 18 points and eight boards.

I might take a stab on Rhode Island here. Probably staying away from it, though. The Rams are mired in a rough five-game losing streak right now, however they’ve gone 2-2 in their last four at home and the team was competitive in one of the losses (55-54 versus VCU). As for George Washington, they’re struggling lately as well but still putting up points at a decent clip. If Rhode Island can get off to a good start here and ride the home wave I think they’ve got a good shot at covering.
