The Oregon State Beavers recently played San Francisco, Saint Mary’s, and Pepperdine. Oregon State hasn’t played since March 8 and is riding a three-game losing streak.

UCF is the more battle tested team, but I’m not excited to lay chalk with a squad that’s lost 10 of its last 14 games.

Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview

The Oregon State Beavers (20-10, 18-11 ATS) not only managed to avoid their third consecutive loss for the first time this season after losing to St. Mary’s and Portland, but they connected three wins, defeating Pacific, Pepperdine, and San Diego. However, Oregon State failed to make it fourth straight as it fell short of San Francisco 74-72 at home. Oregon State is 5th in the WCC Standings with six games behind the Gaels. Even if they lose, the Beavers will keep the No. 5 spot for the conference tourney.

Oregon State is averaging 76.8 PPG (110th) and is allowing 68.3 PPG (74th). The Beavers are getting 33.8 RPG (302nd) and dish out 14.8 APG (120th). Michael Rataj is the team’s top scorer with 17.6 PPG, a team-high 7.6 RPG, 2.1 APG, and a team-high SPG. Parsa Fallah adds 12.7 PPG and 4.0 RPG, while Nate Kingz has 11.6 PPG and 2.5 RPG.

St. Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview

The St. Mary’s Gaels (26-4, 14-15 ATS) are one of the hottest teams in basketball right now. Although their previous fantastic run of 10 consecutive wins came to an end with a narrow 65-64 loss to San Francisco, the Gaels are now on a new winning streak. St. Mary’s won the last six games, beating Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount on the road in the recent two. The Gaels are already crowned the WCC regular-season champs.

St. Mary’s averages 74.2 PPG (186th) and allows 60.7 PPG (4th). The Gaels are 29th in rebounds (39.5) and 60th in assists (15.9). Augustas Marciulionis leads the team with 14.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 6.1 APG, and 1.4 SPG. Paulius Murauskas follows him with 13.0 PPG and a team-high 8.2 RPG, while Mitchell Saxen contributes 10.3 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.3 SPG, and a team-high 1.3 BPG.

St. Mary’s and Oregon State have met just once and it was a few weeks ago when the Gaels secured a 63-49 win on the road.  Given the Gaels already secured the No. 1 spot in the WCC, I am not sure they will be using their starters much in this one. I could be wrong, but St. Mary’s can afford to relax and ease its fantastic defense, which is one of the best in the country. That said, I believe the hosts will be more lenient to the opponents, who are a solid offensive team. With no pressure, the Gaels can score freely on the other end, so I am going with Over. Oregon State has hit the game total Over in 22 of its last 33 games, while Oregon State has hit the team total Over in 21 of its last 32 games.

Malik Thomas led San Francisco with 23 points and two rebounds, while Tyrone Riley IV added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win. 

Prior to that game, the Dons defeated San Diego by a score of 84-61 but did lose to Gonzaga by a score of 88-77 before that. San Francisco has won six of their last seven games and they are currently tied for second in the WCC standings with a 12-4 record. San Francisco has scored 75.7 points per game and they have allowed 67.1 points per game, while also averaging 35.1 rebounds and 13.8 assists per game this season. Why San Francisco will beat Oregon State

San Francisco has won six of their last seven games and they cannot afford to lose this game if they want to maintain any hope of an at-large bid to the tournament. The Dons are shooting just 45.8% from the field this year, but they have allowed 66 points or fewer in four of their last five games. San Francisco beat Oregon State by a score of 81-70 in their first meeting and I like them to pick up the win here, as their defense will be the difference.

Can Oregon State Win Second Straight?

Oregon State has been up and down, but they have come off a big win in the last game. Oregon State faced off against Pacific in the last game and they were able to secure the 79-65 victory. Josiah Lake had a strong game putting up 16 points, five rebounds,  and two assists. There were six different players that put up at least 11 points, and they are going to need a balanced offensive attack again here. Can Pepperdine Bounce Back?

Two games ago, Pepperdine faced off against San Diego, and they were able to secure an 88-81 victory. In the last game against Gonzaga though, it wasn’t much of the same, and they ended up losing 107-55. At halftime, they were down 55-26 and in the second half, they couldn’t get anything better. Danilo Dozic did have a strong game putting up 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. There were three players who found offensive success,  but outside of those there just wasn’t any production. 

Pepperdine sits with a 10-17 record overall and they have gone 12-14 against the spread. At home this season they sit with a 6-7 record overall. Pepperdine is averaging 72.2 points while their defense is giving up 75.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 238th in the league while the defense is ranked 276th. Stefan Todorovic has been the top player this season averaging 18.7 points while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from behind the three-point line. Pepperdine will meet Loyola Marymount after this game.

Oregon State is going to get the job done here with ease. Pepperdine’s defense is giving up 75.2 points per game, and they are going to really struggle to defend here. Oregon State is averaging 76.5 points per game, and they are going to put on an offensive show here. Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview

Oregon State got off to a great start through their first dozen games. The Beavers have been pretty choppy since then, though. Oregon State took out Utah Tech, Weber State, Western Oregon, Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, Idaho, UC Irvine, Sacramento State, Charleston and Oakland in those first 12 outings, falling to only Oregon and North Texas otherwise. Since then the Beavers are a shaky 7-6 overall. The wins have come versus Portland, San Diego, Pacific, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, Santa Clara and Washington State. Otherwise it’s been losses to Nebraska, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. That gives the Beavers a 17-8 overall record through their first 25 games of the season.

In the Saint Mary’s matchup over the weekend, the Beavers opened the game with a rough 30-19 deficit. Oregon State didn’t end up getting any closer than that, falling further behind on a 33-30 run for a 63-49 defeat in the end. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Isaiah Sy, who came off the bench for 10 points and two rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Nate Kingz led the starters with a modest seven points and one rebound. Both Parsa Fallah (five rebounds) and Damarco Minor (three rebounds) chipped in six points apiece as well.

Portland Pilots Betting Preview

Over on the Portland side, they’ve had a rough season so far. The Pilots haven’t been able to win consecutive games just yet. During a 3-7 start, Portland fell to UC Santa Barbara, Oregon, South Florida, Ohio, Princeton, Kent State and Kansas City. After a 2-1 run with wins over Willamette and Lafayette (with a loss to CSU Bakersfield), Portland fell to Washington State, Oregon State, Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s and San Francisco in succession. It’s been a 3-4 run since then featuring wins over Pacific, San Diego and Pepperdine among losses to Washington State, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara. That gives Portland a rough 8-17 overall record through 25 games so far this year.

Matched up against Santa Clara last Thursday, the Pilots came out of the locker room facing a 41-31 deficit. Portland got blitzed 56-19 the rest of the way, limping to a blowout loss 97-50 in the end. Leading the way in the defeat was Christ Austin with 12 points and four rebounds. Vukasin Masic came off the bench to provide 11 points with four rebounds and one assist. Max Mackinnon added eight points with three rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes as well.

Why the Portland Pilots will win

• Oregon State has lost each of its last 15 Thursday road games.
• The home team has won six of Oregon State’s last seven games.

• Portland has lost four of its last five night games following a home loss.

Portland vs Oregon State Prediction

I’ll stay with Oregon State. The Beavers need a good effort after falling to Saint Mary’s at home, and this is a good spot to get it. Oregon State shot just 36.5 percent from the field in the loss to the Gaels, giving up 53.1 percent shooting on the other side. The 30-28 rebounding deficit didn’t help either. The Beavers have been below 61 points in two of the last three games now, losing both of those outings.

The last time these teams met up back on December 30, Oregon State powered out an 89-79 win at home. The Beavers shot very well in that one, hitting 61.4 percent from the field. That said, Oregon State also gave up 51.9 percent shooting on the other side, however the 29-19 rebounding advantage helped significantly. In any case, the Beavers are certainly the better team in this scenario but I’d like to see them clamp down a little better on defense this time on the way to a more convincing road win in the rematch. Oregon State could certainly use it.

I’m on Oregon State in this game. The Beavers continue to defy the odds and cover games at home, and while it’s not often that the Beavers are home underdogs this season, let’s not forget that Oregon State was a 9-point underdog to Gonzaga earlier this season and beat the Zags outright. Saint Mary’s is almost in cruise control to take down the WCC regular season title with an upcoming homestand and some games left against the dregs of the WCC and I think that Oregon State could use another signature win here to bolster their NCAA tournament at-large resume in the event they don’t win the WCC tournament. I think catching points in this spot is well worth the look as I think Saint Mary’s kind of gets caught napping here once again. Give me the Beavers and the points.

The Beavers have already beaten similar teams like Pacific on the road by 36 and San Diego at home by 27. I’m not saying this is a big margin like that, but I think that Oregon State can get the win and cover at home here. Give me the Beavers.

This team has been up and down this season and in the last game the offense really let them down. Charleston was out-rebounded 48-36 in that one (22-8 offensively) which could get them into major trouble on Sunday. That said, the Cougars have scored well over this four-game win streak with 77 or more points in each outing.

As for Oregon State, they rolled right past Sac State in their last outing on 53.7 percent shooting and 37 rebounds. The Beavers have posted 78 or more points in three of the last four (67 in the outlier—all wins), and they were within three points in both losses this year. Covering here will be a tall order for Charleston, but I think it’s doable if the Cougars play well.
