Florida vs UConn Prediction

Florida is easily the better, more balanced team and should win. I believe Florida is the best team in the country and was my pick to win the title. The line is accurate and with Florida being 26-9 ATS on the season, a cover and comfortable win wouldn’t be shocking. However, UCONN has played decent ball over the last couple of weeks, the defense has been better, and it’s healthy. Dan Hurley is able to get his guys up for tournament games, and these guys have a certain type of swagger come March.

There’s just something about UConn that makes the Huskies hard to bet against this time of year. Also, UConn has won all five games against Florida, three of which came as an underdog. We saw in 2014 when UConn beat Florida in the Final Four as a seven-point underdog. The Gators were a number one seed as well. I’m not saying UConn wins, but I want the points in my pocket.

I’m on UConn here. I just didn’t love what I saw from Creighton in needing overtime to scrape by Depaul in a game where the Bluejays trailed by double digits for a good part of that game. That rally also creates a bit of a letdown factor here, as the Bluejays exerted so much energy in that game and now have to turn around on no rest and battle one of their biggest rivals in the conference. I think that UConn is just flat out the better team here. Give me UConn laying the points in this one.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

The Huskies have had a wild year so far with some great wins mixed among some crushing losses. UConn went 12-3 over their first 15 outings though, falling to only Memphis, Colorado and Dayton during that time. Since then it’s been a pretty choppy run. The Huskies are 6-6 in their last 12 outings with wins over Georgetown, Butler, DePaul, Marquette, Creighton and Villanova. The losses otherwise were versus Villanova, Creighton, Xavier, St. John’s, Seton hall and St. John’s again. That gave the Huskies an 18-9 overall run through the first 27 outings.

In their Wednesday matchup with Georgetown, the Huskies jumped out to a 42-35 lead in the first half. UConn kept it going from there on a 51-44 advantage and took the eventual win 93-79 in the end. Solo Ball led the starters with his 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. Liam McNeeley added 17 points with four assists and three rebounds, while Hassan Diarra put up 14 points with seven assists, four rebounds and two steals. Alex Karaban had 13 points with three rebounds, and Tarris Reed doubled off the bench on 20 points and 10 boards.

Providence Friars Betting Preview

Over on the Providence side, they’ve had a couple of good runs so far this year but overall they’re struggling. The Friars won their first five straight games, then hit a 2-8 run with wins over BYU and DePaul among losses to Oklahoma, Davidson, Indiana, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Marquette and UConn during that time. A 4-2 stretch came next with wins over Butler, Seton Hall, Georgetown and Seton Hall again. Since then it’s been a 1-6 run with a lone win over Villanova among losses to St. John’s, Creighton, Butler, Xavier, Georgetown and Marquette. That gives the Friars a 12-16 overall run through 28 games so far.

Matched up against Marquette in their Tuesday outing, the Friars were down 43-32 by the break. Providence didn’t get any better from there on a 39-20 second half and limped to the blowout defeat 82-52. The only player on the team to finish in double-figures was Jayden Pierre with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Both Oswin Erhunmwunse (eight rebounds; three blocks) and Rich Barron (four rebounds; two steals) chipped in eight points apiece during the defeat last well.

Why the Providence Friars will win

• Providence has won 21 of its last 24 day games at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
• Connecticut has lost each of its last three day games.
• Connecticut has lost the first half in five of its last six games against the Big East Conference.

• Connecticut has won 22 of its last 24 games when playing with a rest disadvantage.

Providence vs UConn Prediction

I’ll probably take a stab on Providence here. The Friars are looking pretty bad after a blowout road loss to Marquette in their latest outing, though. In that matchup Providence shot just 33.9 percent from the field and got outmuscled on the boards 39-34. The 18 turnovers for 19 Eagles points didn’t help matters either. The Friars have now given up 80 or more points in five of the last six games, losing all five.

These teams last saw each other back on January 5 in a tight 87-84 home win for the Huskies. In that one Providence had a 12-point lead at the break but UConn stormed back with 60 points in the second half. Both teams shot well (50 percent and up), while the Friars had a 34-22 rebounding edge (15-5 offensive). The 10 turnovers for 14 Huskies points didn’t help though, nor did the second-half breakdown. Providence isn’t playing very well lately so they’ll need to rise to the occasion in the home rematch. I think they’ve got a good shot at covering but I’m probably not touching this one in reality. UConn could easily come alive and blitz the Friars into a blowout finish as well.

I’m on St. John’s here. I don’t think MSG is a home court edge for the Johnnies here given the immense amount of historical success UConn has had in this venue. However, I still think we have to admit and take consideration that this UConn team is not the same UConn team of the past and that there’s a lot that should be red flags for the Huskies going into the tournament time. I didn’t like how UConn looked against Villanova and there’s a strong argument to be made that UConn should’ve lost that game. I still think St. John’s is the beast of the Big East and I think the Johnnies get the win and cover at MSG here. Give me St. John’s.

Villanova Looks to Bounce Back

Villanova is looking to bounce back here after they really struggled in the last game. Villanova scored only 62 points against Providence while the defense gave up 75 points and that was enough for the 13 points. At halftime, they were down 36-24 and in the second half, it didn’t get any better as they ended up losing. Villanova shot 43.4 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Villanova comes into this game with a 15-10 record, and they have gone 13-12 against the spread. Away from home this season they have gone 2-5 against the spread. Villanova is averaging 74.8 points while their defense is giving up 68 points per game. The offense is ranked 162nd in the league while the defense is ranked 68th. Eric Dixon has been the top player for Villanova this season, averaging 23.2 points while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from behind the three-point line. 

UConn Continues to Shock

UConn continues to shock at times, and it always comes at the worst time. UConn faced off against Seton Hall in the last game and they blew it late during regulation and they blew it again in overtime, which led to the 69-68 defeat. UConn shot only 37.3 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from behind the three-point line. Alex Karaban put up 20 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Two games ago against Creighton, they played better and they were able to secure the 70-66 victory.

The one thing they can’t do is overlook this game, or they will be in trouble. UConn is averaging 78.3 points while their defense is giving up 68.5 points per game. This is a big-time bounce-back spot for UConn. It’s not so much that I trust the Huskies; I just really don’t trust Villanova, and the Wildcats are going to have some major issues here. Villanova is averaging 74.8 points on the season, but the Wildcats are going to have some major issues getting that type of offense going here. UConn is averaging 78.3 points, and they are going to end up cruising here. This game is going to be a blowout victory for UConn. Back UConn against the spread.

UConn Looks for Second Straight Win

UConn hasn’t lived up to the expectations that were on them at the beginning of the season, but they are coming off a victory in the last game. Guard Solo Ball has been the top player for this team, averaging 14.8 points while shooting 42. 9 percent from behind the three-point line. Ahmad Nowell is dealing with an injury and is questionable for this game. 

Why UConn Will Beat Seton Hall

Seton Hall’s Offense is Ice Cold

Seton Hall’s offense is ice-cold, and they have some major issues right now. Two games ago against Butler, Seton Hall lost by 30 points, and in the last game against Georgetown, they were defeated 60-46. In the second half the offense scored only 20 points. Seton Hall shot 39.5 percent from the field and and 25 percent from behind the three point line. Isaiah Coleman was the only real bright spot and he put up 21 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. The rest of the offense just wasn’t good enough. 

Seton Hall currently sits with a 6-18 record overall and they have gone 9-15 against the spread. At home this season they are 4-8 straight up. Seton Hall is averaging 62.4 points while their defense is giving up 69.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 360th in the league while the defense is ranked 111th. Isaiah Coleman is averaging 14.9 points while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from behind the three point line.

Seton Hall’s offense has been a major problem this season, and they are going to realy struggle to get the offense going here. I’m on Creighton in this one. I think I’m at the point where I just have to accept that this isn’t the same UConn team as past seasons. Perhaps that will change come tournament time as the Huskies attempt to three-peat, but I don’t see it here against a Creighton team that’s rolling and played really well at home over the course of this win streak. The Bluejays have been playing too well to go against and they’ve proven themselves against the top teams in the Big East more often than not this season. I’ll back Creighton here.

Is UConn Back on Track?

Coming into the season, many believe UConn was a national title contender, and they still might be, but there was a stretch where they had some major issues. Just a couple of Saturdays ago, they lost to Xavier 76-72. Since that point, they have figured it out, though, and won two games in a row. In the last game, they went on the road to Marquette, a place that is very hard to play, and they ended up with a 77-69 victory. At halftime, they were up 42-29, and they ended up holding on. UConn was on fire from the field, shooting 59.5 percent from the field and 63.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Solo Ball had a strong game, putting up 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. 

UConn still sits with a 16-6 record overall and they have gone 10-12 against the spread. The over has hit in 12 of the games. UConn is averaging 79.9 points, while their defense is giving up 68.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 54th and that is going to need to be good, but even more impressive, they are going to need the defense to step up. One of the big questions for UConn is injury concerns. Aidan Mahaney is dealing with an injury and is questionable for this game. Liam McNeeley is also dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable for this game. 

St John’s Stays Hot

St John’s looks like a team that could be a problem in March, and they have all kinds of confidence right now. St John’s has won nine games in a row and the last loss came against Creighton all the way back on New Year’s Eve. In the last game against Marquette, St John’s gave up only 64 points and they ended up winning by six points. St John’s scored 40 points in the second half and that was enough for the win. The most impressive part was that they won, shooting only 18.88 percent from behind the three-point line. Kadary Richmond put up 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. 

St John’s currently sits with a 20-3 record overall and they have gone 14-8-1 against the spread. Away from home this season, straight up, they are 4-1. The Red Storm are averaging 78.9 points, while their defense is giving up 65.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 73rd in the league and it’s what they have leaned on all year. They like to get up shots and are averaging 65.43 attempts per game. RJ Luis Jr has been the top player for this team, averaging 17.4 points while shooting 45 percent from the field. 

Why St John’s Will Beat UConn

• St. John’s has won each of its last nine games.
• Connecticut has lost the first half in four of its last five home games against Conference opponents.

UConn’s defense has shown holes at times, and they are going to really struggle again here. St John’s is averaging 78.9 points per game, and although they might not score that here, they are still going to score enough here to get the job done. Back St John’s against the spread here.

Both of these teams come into this matchup ranked in the top 25, but Marquette is 9-1 in conference play and they will be at home for this game. The Golden Eagles haven’t been super impressive this year, but they continue to find ways to win. Marquette is shooting 45.1% from the field this year, while UConn is shooting 49% from the field. The Huskies have been pretty inconsistent over the last few weeks and played a very poor first half against DePaul in their last game. I really don’t love either of these teams in this matchup, but I do think we are going to see plenty of points in this one, so I will take the over in this contest.

DePaul Blue Demons Betting Preview

The Blue Demons kicked off the season on a great run, and they were riding high by the end of November. Since then, however, the wins have been few and hard to come by as DePaul has slipped below .500 again. The Demons took victories over Southern Indiana, Prairie View, Mercer, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and Valparaiso in succession during a hot start over their first seven outings. A 2-4 run came next with wins over Wichita State and Loyola Maryland alongside losses to Texas Tech, Providence, St. John’s, and Northwestern. Since then it’s been a rough 1-7 run over the last eight games. The lone win in that time was over Georgetown. Otherwise, it’s been losses to UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, Marquette, Creighton, and Butler in that time. The result has been a 10-11 overall record for the Blue Demons through the first 21 outings of the 2024-25 season so far.

Back on Saturday versus Butler, the Blue Demons went into the second half with a 40-33 deficit. DePaul didn’t end up getting any closer than that, falling further behind on a 46-36 run the rest of the way during an 86-69 defeat. NJ Benson was the team’s leading scorer in the losing effort, posting 20 points with nine rebounds in a near double-double. CJ Gunn added 16 points with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Conor Enright added 12 points with six assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 36 minutes of work as well.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they’ve had an odd season thus far. The Huskies posted a losing streak on neutral courts back in November and they’ve been sketchy in the win column lately. Other than that it’s been smooth sailing, though. UConn took out Sacred Heart, New Hampshire, Le Moyne, and East Texas A&M in their first four games, then fell in succession versus Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton. A nice win streak ensued over Maryland Eastern Shore, Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, and Providence. From there, however, it’s been a 2-3 stretch over the last five games for the Huskies. The wins were over Georgetown and Butler. Otherwise, it was losses to Villanova, Creighton, and Xavier in that time, giving UConn a 14-6 overall run through 20 games this season.

Matched up against Xavier over the weekend, the Huskies held a slim 41-40 edge going into the locker room. Xavier came back with a 36-31 second half, however, giving UConn a 76-72 loss in the end. Topping the team with a double-double in the losing effort was Solo Ball with 20 points, 11 rebounds and one assist. Aidan Mahaney came off the bench for 14 points with three boards, three assists and three turnovers, while both Samson Johnson (four rebounds; five blocks) and Hassan Diarra (five rebounds; four assists) scored 12 points each.

Why the Connecticut Huskies will win

• DePaul has lost each of its last 17 games against AP-ranked opponents.
• Connecticut has won each of its last 16 games at XL Center.
• Connecticut has won the first half in each of its last six games against DePaul.

UConn vs DePaul Prediction

I’ll lean toward UConn, but I’m probably avoiding this one. The Huskies have once again run into some issues in the win column lately, and they’re coming off another defeat via a pretty decent (but not great) Xavier team. UConn shot 47.3 percent from the field in that one and won the rebounding battle 35-28. That said, the Huskies also coughed up 13 turnovers for 22 Musketeers points. UConn has been pretty erratic on the scoreboard during this 2-3 run as well. They’ve been below 69 points in three of those five games.

The last time these teams met up back on New Year’s Day, the Huskies secured an 81-68 road victory. UConn had turnover trouble in that one as well (13 for 12 points), so they’ll need to focus on ball security this time. I still like the Huskies here, but I’m not enthusiastic about it.

Dayvion McKnight is the third double-digit scorer and Dailyn Swain is dishing 2.1 assists. The Xavier Musketeers are shooting 38.2 percent from beyond the arc and 78.5 percent from the free-throw line. The Xavier Musketeers are allowing 32.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 30.8 rebounds per game.

Xavier will continue to be without Trey Green and Lassina Traore. UConn will continue to be without Liam McNeeley due to an ankle injury.

The UConn Huskies have been shaky as of late, barely beating a bad Butler team, and losing to Creighton and Villanova. Not having Liam McNeeley doesn’t help. The Xavier Musketeers probably should be favored at home, where they’re 9-2 SU on the season. However, UCONN is still one of the better teams in the country, and you don’t get the Huskies as underdogs often. In fact, this will be the 11th time since 2022 where UCONN is getting points. UConn had two outright wins last month as an underdog. UCconn is also 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four games against Xavier. I love getting the better team as an underdog. Give me the free bucket with the UConn Huskies on the road.

Butler has some major issues all season but they are coming off a victory here. Butler scored 82 points and that was enough for them to hold onto the victory. At halftime, they were up 41-35. There were four different players that put up at least 10 points.

The offense is ranked 249th in the league while the defense is ranked 187th in the league. Jahmyl Telfort has been the top player for Butler averaging 15.2 points while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from behind the thee point line.

UConn in the last game faced off against Creighton and they didn’t look great. UConn scored 63 points while the defense gave up 68 points. I’m going to take a shot on Creighton and the points here. I’m not the biggest fan of the Bluejays as I have a tendency to feel like Creighton is overhyped and overvalued a lot of the time when they take the floor and are on the betting board. However, the same could be said for UConn, who clearly are not the same team as the two-time defending champions and I think that the door could be open for Creighton to be competitive in this game. I’ll take a shot on the Bluejays and the points in this game.

The UConn Huskies are obviously the better team, but they’ve been shaky as of late, losing to Villanova and almost getting upset by Providence. Not having Liam McNeeley doesn’t help matters. I said in previous write-ups that the Georgetown Hoyas may be a good basketball team. Georgetown plays defense and has some guys who can take over offensively. Georgetown has beat the teams it’s supposed to beat, upset Creighton, and is 10-1 SU at home. Georgetown has also covered eight of its last 10 games overall. The UConn Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. I like Georgetown to be physical and make a game of this. Give me the points.

Villanova Has Won Two Straight

Villanova has won two straight games and they have some confidence right now. Two games ago against Butler, they were up 73-65 and in the last game against DePaul, they were able to secure a 100-56 victory. At halftime, they were up 48-32, and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Forward Eric Dixon put up 25 points, five rebounds, and four assists. There are five different players that put up at least 11 points to help pace them. 

Villanova on the season is averaging 80.1 points while their defense is giving up 66.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 75th in the league while the defense is ranked 74th in the league. Eric Dixon has been the star of the show for this team averaging 25.9 points while shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 49 percent from behind the three-point line. He has really kept this team afloat all year with his scoring and rebounding. 

Why Villanova Will Beat UConn 

• Villanova has won 48 of its last 51 night games against Conference opponents at Finneran Pavilion.

UConn had some issues at times early in the season but they have a ton of confidence right now. UConn in the last game faced off against Providence and that was enough for the three-point victory. UConn shot 56.3 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Hassan Diarrra put up 19 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. There were six different players that put up at least 10 points. Two games ago against DePaul, they scored 81 points on the way to the win. Overall UConn sits with a 12-3 record overall but they have gone only 8-7 against the spread.

Give me Villanova here. Yes, Uconn might be the better team, but especially in the last game, they didn’t look exactly dominant. This Villanova team is good and they are averaging 80.1 points per game. Eric Dixon is having a huge season and is going to put on a show here. UConn’s defense has shown some holes in the last couple of games and they are going to really struggle to defend here. Villanova is going to score enough, and they are going to end up covering the spread here.
