The Texas State Bobcats are 11-8 (4-3) this season after they defeated Southern Miss in overtime by a score of 85-82 in their last game. Texas State was tied at 39 at halftime and was tied after regulation, but they scored eight points in the overtime for the win. Texas State comes into this matchup after winning three of their last four games, but they will be on the road for this game. Louisiana has won two of their last three games, but they are shooting just 40.4% from the field and they are scoring 65.9 points per game. The Ragin’ Cajuns have beaten up ULM in two of their last three games, but they are the worst team in the conference, so it doesn’t mean much. This Louisiana team has been pretty bad in their last three losses and I don’t see them keeping this game close. Take Texas State to cover.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview

Louisiana took out Grambling, Kennesaw State, Wake Forest, Southern Miss, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Texas State, and Arkansas State during a nice 8-1 opening run. It’s been a 2-2 stretch in the last four games though, as the Cajuns have fallen to South Alabama and Marshall.

In the Sun Belt Championship Game versus Marshall, the Cajuns gave up points in every quarter during a flat 31-3 blowout loss. QB Daniel Beale did most of the throwing on just 95 yards and a pick. Zylan Perry led a tiny rush attack on 25 yards off six carries.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

Over on the TCU side, they took out Stanford, Long Island U, Kansas, Utah, and Texas Tech during a 5-3 start this year. The Frogs would then fall to Baylor before wins versus Oklahoma State, Arizona, and Cincinnati.

Matched up against the Bearcats on November 30, the Frogs came into the fourth quarter with a 20-7 edge. TCU was able to hang on for a 20-13 victory in the end. Josh Hoover finished with 212 yards and an interception. Tops in receiving was Blake Nowell with 75 yards off three catches.

I’ll take a stab at Louisiana here. The Cajuns certainly need a bounce-back effort after getting drilled by Marshall, however. Louisiana mustered just 255 total yards (199 passing) and 11 first downs in the defeat, combined with nine penalties for 98 yards. The Cajuns are generally a much better scoring team, though; they’ve hit 33 or more points in nine of 13 outings this year. The passing game (260.5 yards per game) and rush attack (170.5 yards per game) are normally pretty well-balanced also.

As for TCU, they failed to score in the second half against a middling Cincinnati team in their last outing. The Frogs would eventually post 17 first downs and 336 total yards (212 passing) but it was their lowest points total since October 19 (13) in a win over Utah. TCU averages 33.6 points per game this year and has a nice passing attack (317.6 yards per game). Louisiana is going to need to monopolize time of possession while they’ve got the ball, but I think the Cajuns stand a decent chance at being competitive here.

UAB Blazers Betting Preview

The Blazers have been pretty busy so far this year, with seven games in the bag already. UAB has gone a tepid 3-4 in those outings however, beating Southern Miss, Southeastern LA, and Auburn Montgomery with losses to Vermont, High Point, Longwood, and Illinois State.

UAB gave up 56.6 percent on the other side, however, as well as getting out-rebounded 29-23 with 16 turnovers along the way. UAB has scored well lately with 81 or more points in three straight. They’ve given up a combined 173 in their last pair, however.

As for Louisiana, they’ve been below 70 points in three of their last four games and four of six overall. The Cajuns have given up 83 or more points in four straight themselves, so UAB should have plenty of openings in this one.

I’ll probably just stay with Louisiana. The Cajuns were able to keep their run going versus a middling Arkansas State team over the weekend, notching 579 total yards (278 rushing), 8.9 yards per play, and 27 first downs. The defense came up with a couple of picks and held the Red Wolves to 6-of-13 on third downs in a pretty good overall effort.

As for South Alabama, they’ve had some time to rest and recover from their shocker loss to Georgia Southern. The Jaguars posted 13 penalties for 99 yards in that one with a pair of turnovers and a tepid 5-of-12 result on third downs. The defense held up until late, eventually giving up 337 yards (231 passing). It was a demoralizing loss, and I’m not sure South Alabama will get over it well enough to cover in this one.

Louisana is playing well heading into this game and they have won four games in a row. In the last game against Coastal Carolina, Louisiana scored 34 points, and they ended up winning by 10 points. Louisiana really closed the game strong, scoring 17 points, and they ended up winning by ten points. Ben Wooldridge was under center, and he completed 27 of his 36 passes for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Bill Davis also had a huge game on the ground rushing 19 times for 110 yards.

How Can Texas State Bounce Back?

Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview

Appalachian State’s season kicked off with a 38-10 win over East Tennessee State and a 66-20 loss to Clemson. The Mountaineers beat East Carolina 21-19 the next weekend then fell 48-14 to South Alabama. A September 28 matchup with Liberty was canceled due to the hurricane.

Last weekend versus Marshall, the Mountaineers gave up double-digit points in each of the final three quarters during a 52-37 loss. QB Joey Aguilar logged 293 yards with two scores and two picks while also leading the rush on 55 yards off 10 carries.

Over on the Louisiana side, they got off to a 2-0 start with wins over Grambling State 40-10 and Kennesaw State 34-10. The Cajuns took their first loss in game three versus Tulane, falling 41-33. Louisiana was able to eke out a 41-38 win over Wake Forest the next week, though.

In the Southern Miss game, the Cajuns outscored the Eagles 6-0 in the second half during a 23-13 win. Quarterback Ben Woolridge posted 222 yards with one score. Dre’lyn Washington added 12 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown to top the running game.

I’m going with Louisiana. Although it was a pretty quiet second half, the Cajuns looked pretty good against an overmatched Southern Miss team last weekend. Louisiana amassed 410 total yards (188 rushing), 22 first downs, and a nice 41:35 in time of possession. The Cajuns gave up 177 yards (140 passing), 4.4 yards per play, and eight first downs on the other side.

As for App State, they couldn’t keep pace with a fiery Marshall team over the weekend, and the 15 penalties (for 158 yards) didn’t help. The Mountaineers posted 473 yards total (293 passing) and 32 first downs but went just 3-of-14 on third-down tries. I do like Appalachian State to shape up and be competitive here but I don’t think they’ll cover.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview

The Cajuns started things out well this year with a pair of wins. First was a 40-10 blowout versus Grambling State, then a 34-10 win over Kennesaw State. On September 21, the Cajuns took their first loss 41-33 versus Tulane.

Last weekend versus Wake Forest, the Cajuns scored double-digit points in three of four quarters and powered out a tight win 41-38. Ben Woolridge finished with 257 yards and three scores, while Elijah Davis had 13 carries for 95 yards and a TD rushing.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Eagles’ side, they had a tough matchup versus Kentucky in their opener and fell 31-0. Southern Miss got their first win the next week 35-10 over Southeastern LA, but then fell again versus South Florida 49-24.

The Golden Eagles dropped another one in their last appearance on September 21. Southern Miss was down 21-7 by the break and limped to a 44-7 loss. QB John White logged 117 yards and two picks. Leading the rush was Kenyon Clay with 49 yards on 10 carries.

I’m staying with Louisiana. The Cajuns played a wild game versus Wake Forest over the weekend and to their credit powered out a gutsy win. Louisiana got 466 total yards from the offense (257 passing) with zero turnovers and 24 first downs but did have eight penalties for 83 yards. It was a nice bounce-back effort after the Tulane loss.

As for Southern Miss, they looked pretty rough in their last outing. The Eagles notched 246 yards (132 passing), 16 first downs, six turnovers, and 1-of-10 on third-down tries in the loss to Jacksonville State. I don’t think Southern Miss will rebound well enough to cover in this one.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 1-2 (0-1) this year after they lost to Ole Miss by a score of 40-6 in their last game. The Wake offense has scored 27 points per game with 329.3 passing yards and 126.7 rushing yards per game, while the defense has allowed 28.0 points against per game this season. The Demon Deacons have gone 37.2% on third down and 5-9 on fourth down through three games. Hank Bachmeier has completed 61.5% of his passes for 905 yards and four touchdowns, while Taylor Morin has caught 18 passes for 268 yards.

Ben Wooldridge has completed 68.6% of his passes for 735 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, while Bill Davis has rushed for 218 yards and two scores. 

Wake Forest vs Louisiana Prediction 

Wake Forest comes into this game after a bye week, but they were absolutely dominated by Ole Miss in their last game. The Demon Deacons have allowed 71 points in their last two games and will face a Louisiana offense that has scored 33, 34, and 40 points in their first three games. Louisiana played very well against Tulane last week, but they just couldn’t get a big stop when they needed it. I think this is going to be another very high scoring game, as I don’t trust either defense, so I like the over in this matchup.

Tulane Green Wave Betting Preview

This year Tulane kicked off their campaign with a matchup against Southeastern Louisiana. The Green Wave didn’t have any issues in that one and rolled to a 52-0 blowout win. In game two versus Kansas State, Tulane held strong but was eventually bested 34-27.

Back on Saturday versus Oklahoma, Tulane was down 24-13 going into the final quarter. The Green Wave ended up with a 34-19 loss. QB Darian Mensah logged 166 yards with one TD and a pick. Makhi Hughes carried 19 times for 71 rush yards.

Over on the Louisiana side, they took on Grambling State in their August 31 opener. The Cajuns didn’t have too many problems in that one and rolled to the win 40-10. QB Ben Woolridge finished with 308 yards, three scores, and a pick. Harvey Broussard caught four balls for 76 yards and a score.

Likewise for game two against Kennesaw State back on September 7. Louisiana won that one easily 34-10. Woolridge threw for 189 yards and a score in the victory, but Zylan Perry and Elijah Davis did most of the damage. That RB duo posted a combined 184 yards and three scores off 21 carries.

Louisiana posted 454 total yards (257 rushing), 7.8 yards per play, and 21 first downs versus Kennesaw State in their last outing.

As for Tulane, they didn’t post too bad of an effort versus a great Oklahoma team last weekend. The Wave coughed up two turnovers and had nine penalties, though. This next matchup will be significantly easier—that said I still like the Cajuns to cover.

Louisiana also swept A-State in the regular season and spots would’ve likely been flipped had Louisiana not gone cold to end the year. I’ll side with the Cajuns to advance in this one.
