With that said, who do I like at the captain position in this matchup? In my view, senior forward Eric Dixon fits the narrative as the best player to select at captain. Let’s dive into Dixon’s relevant game data from the 2024 NCAA season to better illustrate the talented forward’s contributions to his team.

In the 32 games that forward Eric Dixon has played for the Villanova Wildcats in the 2024 NCAA season (including postseason games), Dixon is averaging a robust 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 steals a game.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the 32 games that Eric Dixon has played this season, Dixon has compiled a 45.1% field goal percentage, a 25% three-point percentage and a 64.5% free throw percentage.

However, the Buffaloes still finished at the bottom of the Big 12 standings, and many thought they would suffer elimination in the opening round of the conference tournament. Colorado beat TCU again and then West Virginia in the second round, and even though they fought bravely against the No. 1 seed Houston, the Buffaloes were stopped in the quarterfinals,

Colorado averages 69.9 PPG (301st) and allows 71.5 PPG (165th). The Buffaloes are 223rd in rebounds (35.0) and 156th in assists (14.1). Julian Hammond III leads the team with 12.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 3.2 SPG, and 1.2 SPG. Andrej Jakimovski follows him with 10.4 PPG, a team-high 5.0 RPG, and 1.1 SPG, while Bangot Dak chips in 8.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and a team-high 1.3 BPG.

Villanova Wildcats Betting Preview

The Villanova Wildcats (19-14, 17-16 ATS) were close to getting the fourth straight win and end the regular season in style, but fell short 75-73 to Georgetown. Still, Villanova secured a respectable No. 6 seed for the Big East tournament, where the Wildcats beat Seton Hall 67-55 in the first round but were powerless against the No. 3 UConn, losing 73-56.

Villanova is averaging 73.4 PPG (204th) and is allowing 67.5 PPG (52nd). The Wildcats are getting 33.8 RPG (309th) and dishing out 12.5 APG (308th). Eric Dixon is the team’s top performer with 23.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG. Wooga Poplar has 14.5 PPG, a team-high 6.9 RPG, and a team-high 1.3 SPG, while Jordan Longino contributes 11.6 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 2.3 APG, and 1.1 SPG.

It’s going to be the first-ever meeting between these teams. I would normally back Villanova to win and cover here, but Colorado positively surprised me late in the season, and the Buffaloes even put up a fight against Houston in the conference tournament. I liked their reaction following pale displays for most of the season, so I am going to back Over in this clash rather than backing the winner. Villanova has hit the Team Total Under in 12 of its last 18 games, while the Wildcats have hit the Game Total Over in 19 of their previous 33 games. Additionally, Colorado has hit the Team Total Over in its last 5 games.

Colorado Making A Run?

Too bad Colorado didn’t play like this all season because this has looked like a different team in the last couple of games. Two games ago against TCU, they won 69-67, and in the last game against West Virginia, they were able to pick up the 67-60 victory. In the second half, Colorado scored 44 points, and that was the difference as they picked up the win. The Buffaloes shot 44.9 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Elijah Malone also came off the bench and paced the team putting up 11 points. 

Even though they have won the last couple of games, Colorado still sits with a 14-19 record overall, and a loss here will end. The Buffaloes are averaging 70.7 points overall, while their defense is giving up 71.7 points per game. The offense has been far too inconsistent, and against a tough defensive team, they will need the offense to really step up. Julian Hammond III has been the top player, averaging 12.7 points while shooting 42 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Houston Ready for Their Run

Houston believes they have a run in them, that they hope finishes with them winning the National Championship. Houston’s defense has been strong heading into this game, and they are going to look for another strong here. Two games ago against Kansas, Houston won 65-59 and in the last game against Baylor they won 65-61. LJ Cryer has been the top player, putting up 23 points and two rebounds. Four different players put up at least 11 points. 

Houston sits with a 27-4 record overall and although they might be doing it quietly, this is undoubtedly one of the best teams in the country. The Cougars overall is averaging 74.2 points while their defense is giving up 58.1 points per game. This is a team that does a good job of creating turnovers, and those turnovers are going to be a key here. LJ Cryer has been the top player, averaging 15.3 points while shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Houston vs Colorado Prediction

The last two games have been fun for Colorado, but it’s all got to come to an end at some point, and for the Buffaloes, that will happen on Thursday. Houston’s defense has been elite, giving up only 58.1 points, and they will step up in a significant way again here. Colorado hasn’t been known for their offense all season, and this isn’t going to be the game in which they magically find a way to figure out the Houston defense. The Cougars have too many scoring options, and this game is going to be a blowout victory. Back Houston to win this game and cover the spread.

Julian Hammond III is averaging 12.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, while Andrej Jakimovski is averaging 9.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game this year. Colorado is shooting 44.8% from the field, 74.9% on free throws, and 32% on three pointers this season. 

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview

The West Virginia Mountaineers are 19-12 (10-10) this season after they defeated UCF by a score of 72-65 in their last game. West Virginia led 47-25 at halftime, but they were outscored 40-25 in the second half in the win. The Mountaineers shot 40.9% from the field, 32.4% on three pointers, and 60% on free throws in the game. Javon Small led West Virginia with 25 points and nine assists, while Amani Hansberry added 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

West Virginia has scored 68.4 points per game and they have allowed 64.7 points against per game, while also averaging 33.4 rebounds and 13.9 assists per game this season. Javon Small is averaging 18.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, while Amani Hansberry is averaging 10.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game this year. West Virginia is shooting 42.5% from the field, 72.2% on free throws, and 32.7% on three pointers this season. 

West Virginia vs Colorado Prediction 

Colorado came into the Big 12 Tournament after finishing last in the conference standings, but they were able to survive against TCU on Tuesday and will look for another win here. The Buffaloes only had three conference wins this season, but they are shooting 44.8% from the field. West Virginia has won three of their last four games, but they have struggled to play consistently since early January. West Virginia did beat Colorado by a score of 78-70 earlier this year. The Mountaineers don’t shoot the ball very well from the field, but they are one of the better defensive teams in the conference and I think that will be the difference. Take West Virginia here.

Following a three-game losing skid during which they lost to Kansas, Kansas State, and Texas Tech, the Buffaloes closed the regular season with a home victory over TCU. Colorado ended with a 3-17 conference record and at the rock bottom of the standings.

Colorado is averaging 70.1 PPG (299th) and is allowing 71.8 PPG (179th). The Buffaloes are getting 35.3 RPG (206th) and dish out 14.3 APG (147th). Julian Hammond III is the team’s top performer with 12.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG, a team-high 3.1 APG, and a team-high 1.1 SPG. Andrej Jakimovski has 9.7 PPG and 4.8 RPG, while Bangot Dak contributes 8.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and a team-high 1.4 BPG.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

The TCU Horned Frogs (16-15, 12-19 ATS) played well in mid-February when they connected three victories over Oklahoma State, Arizona State, and Texas Tech. However, the Horned Frogs lost four of the next five to close out the regular season. The lone victory came against UCF at home. It was the first time in 2025 that TCU scored 80+ points in a game. TCU ended in 9th place in the Big 12 Standings with the same record as Baylor.

TCU averages 66.3 PPG (378th) and allows 69.0 PPG (90th). The Horned Frogs are 279th in rebounds (34.1) and 367th in assists (11.7). Noah Reynolds leads the team with 12.3 PPG, 2.2 RPG, and 3.0 APG. Vasean Allette follows him with 11.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.6 APG, and 1.3 SPG, while Frankie Collins chips in 11.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and a team-high 1.9 SPG.

The season record between these teams is 1-1. TCU won the opening duel 68-57 at home, while Colorado was better 76-56 in Boulder a couple of days ago. I have no idea who’s going to win and advance to the second round of the tournament, but I know it’s going to be a low-scoring affair. The Horned Frogs are a fairly slow-paced team and their games are usually low-scoring; they are 10-20-1 Over/Under this season. Also, both H2H this year went Under. TCU has hit the Game Total Under in 22 of its last 34 games, while the Horned Frogs have hit the Team Total Under in 20 of their last 34 games. Additionally, Colorado has hit the Game Total Under in 20 of its last 37 games, while the Buffaloes have hit the Team Total Under in 20 of their last 37 games. Go with Under.

Why Colorado will beat TCU

TCU comes into this matchup trying to finish the regular season with a .500 record in Big 12 play, but they will be on the road for this game. The Horned Frogs have lost three of their last four games and they have scored 63 points or fewer in all three of those losses. Colorado only has two conference wins on the season and they have scored 65 points or fewer in three of their last five games. Colorado’s defense has had issues as well, but TCU is shooting just 41.5% from the field. TCU won the first meeting with Colorado by a score of 68-57, but their offense has been brutal over the last two weeks and I don’t trust them to score on the road. Take Colorado at home.

Colorado Buffaloes Betting Preview

Colorado got off to a pretty nice start in the record column this year. The Buffaloes have struggled mightily since late December, however. After 11 games Colorado was looking pretty good with a 9-2 run featuring losses to only Michigan State and Iowa State. A long losing streak began from there as the Buffaloes lost to Iowa State, Arizona State, UCF, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, BYU, Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, Utah, Houston, and Kansas in succession. Since then it’s been a 2-3 run over the last five games for Colorado. Those wins have come courtesy of UCF and Baylor. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State, giving Colorado an 11-18 record across 29 games so far this season.

In the Kansas State matchup on Sunday, the Buffaloes came out of the break looking at a 33-22 deficit. Colorado got better from there on a 34-32 run but couldn’t crawl back in an eventual loss 65-56. RJ Smith put up 11 points with three rebounds to lead the team in the losing effort. Bangot Dak added 10 points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Sebastian Rancik put up 10 points with five rebounds, two assists and one steal in 21 minutes.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Texas Tech side, they’ve been a fairly consistent team overall this year but things have been pretty choppy for about a month record-wise. The Red Raiders posted a solid 11-4 run with no consecutive losses in their first 15 games this year. Those defeats came versus Saint Joseph’s, Texas A&M, UCF, and Iowa State. Texas Tech would then hit a winning streak over Kansas State, Arizona, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, TCU, Houston and Baylor. Since then, however, it’s been a spotty 4-3 run with losses to Arizona, TCU, and Houston. The wins otherwise have been over Arizona State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Kansas. That gives Texas Tech a 22-7 record across 29 games so far this season.

In the Kansas matchup over the weekend, the Red Raiders went into the locker room with a 48-37 advantage. Texas Tech was outscored 36-30 the rest of the way but managed to hang on for the win 78-73 in the end. JT Toppin led the team with 21 points, five rebounds and one assist. Christian Anderson added 15 points with four rebounds, six assists, and two steals off the bench, while Darrion Williams also finished in double-figures on 14 points with nine rebounds and four assists alongside one block in 33 minutes on the court.

Why the Texas Tech Red Raiders will win

• Texas Tech has won each of its last 10 night games at United Supermarkets Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Colorado has lost each of its last nine night games.
• Colorado has lost the first half in each of its last 10 night games against Top 10 AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Colorado Buffaloes will win

• Texas Tech has lost three of its last four night games.
• Texas Tech has lost the first half in each of its last four night games against the Big 12 Conference.

Texas Tech vs Colorado Prediction

I’m staying with Texas Tech, but the line’s probably too thick to mess with. The Raiders bagged a nice road win over a solid Kansas team in their last outing, hitting 45.2 percent from the field and 34.9 percent (15-of-43) from 3-point range. Texas Tech did get outmuscled on the boards pretty significantly 39-29, and allowed 48.3 percent shooting on the other side so there’s plenty to clean up moving forward. The Raiders have been below 67 points in both losses during this current 4-2 run, so hitting that 7-point mark here would be a great sign.

As for Colorado, they held Kansas State to just 34.4 percent shooting in their latest loss but shot just 39.3 percent on the other side themselves. The 15 turnovers for 20 Wildcats points didn’t help either. Colorado has been below 66 points in each of their last seven losses, so some quality defense (and some better rebounding) by the Raiders would go a long way here.

Julian Hammond III leads the team with 12.8 PPG, 2.6 RPG, a team-high 3.1 APG, and a team-high 1.2 SPG. Andrej Jakimovski follows him with 10.1 PPG and 4.6 RPG, while Bangot Dak contributes 8.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and a team-high 1.4 BPG. 

Kansas State Wildcats Betting Preview

The Kansas State Wildcats (13-15, 15-13 ATS) experienced their best stretch of the season during which they won six consecutive games. However, Kansas State entered a losing streak since and is currently on a four-game run after losing to BYU, Utah, Arizona State, and UCF. The Wildcats are 11th in the Big 12 Standings with a game behind West Virginia and Utah.

Kansas State is averaging 72.9 PPG (224th) and is allowing 70.5 PPG (147th). The Wildcats are getting 33.9 RPG (301st) and dish out 16.2 APG (48th). David N’Guessan is the team’s top scorer with 12.7 PPG and a team-high 7.1 RPG. Brendan Hausen adds 11.8 PPG and 2.5 RPG, while Dug McDaniel contributes 11.1, PPG, 2.7 RPG, a team-high 4.9 APG, and 1.7 SPG.

Why Kansas State will beat Colorado

Kansas State is not impressing offensively of late, but its defense has been even worse. Betting Over on these teams is not the best move you can make, considering how they played this season, but Colorado will play with no pressure and I expect the Buffaloes to be relaxed and score freely. Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview

The Jayhawks started out on a great run this year, but they’ve been quite choppy in the record column since mid-January. Kansas opened with a 14-4 stretch, taking wins over Howard, North Carolina, Michigan State, Oakland, UNC Wilmington, Duke, Furman, NC State, Brown, UCF, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and TCU during that time. The Jayhawks would go just 3-5 over their next eight games, though. The wins in that run were over UCF, Iowa State, and Colorado. Otherwise, it was losses to Houston, Baylor, Kansas State, Utah and BYU. That would give Kansas a 17-9 overall record through their first 26 games of the season.

In the Saturday matchup with Oklahoma State, the Jayhawks jumped out to a commanding lead 52-23 after the first half. Kansas kept it up with a 44-41 run the rest of the way and ended up winning 96-64 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Hunter Dickinson with his double-double of 16 points, 11 boards, and two steals. David Coit came off the bench to provide 15 points with four assists, one rebound, and one steal. Zeke Mayo added 15 points with three rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes of work on the floor as well.

Colorado Buffaloes Betting Preview

Over on the Colorado side, they were looking great in the record column themselves back in late December, but since then the Buffaloes have struggled mightily. A 9-2 record awaited Colorado in their first 11 games with wins over Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado, Cal State Fullerton, Harvard, UConn, Pacific, Colorado State, South Dakota State, and Bellarmine. The Buffaloes would win just one of their next 15 games though, taking out UCF on February 15. Otherwise, it was losses to Iowa State, Arizona State, UCF, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, BYU, Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, Utah, Houston, Kansas, and Iowa State in that time. The result through 26 games was a 10-16 overall run for the Buffaloes.

Matched up against Baylor on Saturday, the Buffaloes held a modest deficit 32-30 by the break. Colorado came back on a 46-42 run in the second half though, and took the eventual victory 76-74. Leading the team in scoring was Andrej Jakimovski with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. RJ Smith added 13 points with two rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes of work as well.

Colorado vs Kansas Prediction

I’ll stay with Kansas here. You could probably argue this one either way, though. The Jayhawks got a much-needed dominant home effort over the weekend versus Oklahoma State. Kansas shot a nice 52.1 percent from the field in that one along with a 48-28 rebounding advantage. The only blemish was Kansas’ 18 turnovers that resulted in 17 Cowboys points. The Jayhawks countered that with 27 points off 17 OSU turnovers in a pretty sloppy overall game ball-control-wise, though. In any case, the 96 points were Kansas’ highest total since scoring 99 in a win over UCF back on January 5, and it comes after just 124 combined points in the last pair.

These teams last saw each other recently, during a 71-59 home victory for the Jayhawks back on February 11. In that one Kansas played a pretty solid all-around game, notching 46.6 percent from the field, a 39-33 rebounding edge, 18 team assists, and just eight turnovers. Colorado shot 38.6 percent on the other side with just nine assists and eight turnovers of their own. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a more competitive game from the Buffaloes in the home rematch, but Kansas should still be in control here.

Must Win Game for Baylor?

Baylor is a good team, but they have been daunted by a tough Big 12 schedule, and right now they have suffered more losses than probably expected. Baylor has lost two of the last three games, with the only win coming a couple of games ago against the West Virginia Mountaineers. On Monday, Baylor got out to a slow start against the Arizona Wildcats, giving up 41 points in the first half, something they couldn’t bounce back from. One issue for Baylor was the three-point shooting, hitting only 5 of 22 shots. V.J. Edgecombe is having a huge season, and he put up 24 points, four rebounds, and two assists. 

Baylor has 16 wins this season, but away from home they only have two wins. The last time out West, Baylor went to BYU and the defense gave up 93 points. The Bears are averaging 78.87 points while their defense is giving up 70 points per game. 

Has Colorado Checked Out?

There have been many games this season where Colorado has looked checked out from the season, but two games ago against UCF, they picked up a 76-63 victory. In the last game against Iowa State, the defense went back to their old ways, giving up 79 points, which led to the loss. At halftime, Colorado was down 45-28, and by the second half, it was too little too late to try and stage a comeback. Colorado actually shot 45.3 percent from the field but only hit four shots from deep. The lack of three-point shooting success was a bit surprising, with them averaging 35.9 percent on the season. 

The good news for Colorado is this game is at home, a place they have had most of their success this season. Colorado has had 10 wins overall, and nine of them have come at the Coors Events Center. Taking care of the ball has been a problem, and they currently average 14.8 turnovers per game. It will take a near-perfect game to find success in this game, and turning the ball over near their season average could doom them. Julian Hammond III has been the most consistent player averaging 12.9 points while shooting 41.7 percent of the field. If the Buffaloes have a lead late, they want the ball in his hand, as he has shot over 90 percent from the free-throw line. 

Why Colorado Will Cover Against Baylor

• Colorado has won 23 of its last 24 day games at CU Events Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Baylor has lost four of its last five road games against the Big 12 Conference.
• Baylor has lost the first half in four of its last five road day games against the Big 12 Conference.

It might not be a popular play, but I am not just not sure how you bet against the home squad here. Baylor on the road has been a struggle, and any game away from home in the Big 12 is tough. Baylor’s defense has been a major issue this season giving up 70 points per game, and Colorado will take advantage. With these types of games, free throw shooting is going to be important, and having someone like Hammond in the back pocket of Colorado is important. Colorado will make the shots late, Baylor won’t, and the home squad will end up covering the spread.

I don’t love either side in this matchup, but I have to fade Colorado on the road. Take TCU to cover at home.
