These teams have never met before. I know that Nebraska comes from one of the strongest conferences in basketball, but Georgetown definitely has a chance here. The Hoyas have a stronger defense, and even though they will play without their second-best scorer Sorber, I am sure they will put up a fight and stay close here. Georgetown has covered the Spread in 16 of its last 28 games, while the Hoyas have hit the Team Total Over in 9 of their previous 12 games, which gives me optimism they will score enough to cover. That being said, I’m still not sold on this UConn team that’s only won once by 11 points since the beginning of December. Creighton will play three of the remaining regular season games at home, and although it will be hard to climb to the top of the Big East standings, the Bluejays will try to stay in 2nd place behind St. John’s.

Creighton is averaging 75.2 PPG (154th) and is allowing 68.7 PPG (83rd). The Bluejays are getting 37.5 RPG (93rd) and are having 16.8 APG (30th). Ryan Kalkbrenner is the team’s top scorer with 18.7 PPG, along with a team-high 8.5 APG and a team-high 2.8 BPG. Steven Ashworth adds 17.0 PPG, a team-high 7.0 APG, and 4.1 RPG, while Pop Isaacs has 16.3 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 3.9 APG. 

Why Creighton will beat Georgetown

• Creighton has won each of its last 15 day games at CHI Health Center Omaha.
• Georgetown has lost 17 of its last 19 away games when playing with a rest disadvantage.

Creighton won six of the last seven H2H encounters, but the Hoyas shocked the Bluejays with a massive 81-57 victory in December. Creighton will be looking for revenge here, and that’s not the only reason I am going to back the hosts. The Bluejays won each of the last three H2H clashes at home, where they are 12-2 this year. Georgetown lost five of the last six road games, and even though Creighton lost the previous two games, I am more than sure the Jays will respond with a comfortable W on Sunday.

I’m on Georgetown in this one. I get the case to be made for Providence catching points as it can be hard to trust this Georgetown team with consistent performances. However, one win over Villanova (in a game I think had more to do with Villanova losing it than it did about Providence winning it) isn’t going to make me forget about the issues that Providence had defensively when Providence is a team that’s hung their hat on their defense for some time now. I’m on the under in this game. Georgetown hasn’t been the sharpest offensive unit in Big East play and I don’t know if I expect that to change here either. However, one thing that Ed Cooley teams are usually predicated on is good defense and being well-coached. I think the defense travels here, and gives an average Butler team a hard time on that end of the floor. The first meeting between these two finished 73-70 earlier this season and a similar first to 70 wins kind of game would not surprise me here in the slightest. Give me the under in this game.

Seton Hall Has Issues 

Seton Hall has had some major issues this season and they have lost eight games in a row. Two games ago against DePaul they lost 74-57 and in the last game against Butler, they ended up losing 84-54. At halftime against Butler, they were down 48-20 and they couldn’t find a way back. Seton Hall shot only 34.4 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from behind the three-point line and that led to the defeat. The only real bright spot for the offense was Prince Aligbe, who scored 17 points and six rebounds. 

Seton Hall sits with a 6-17 record overall and they have gone 9-14 against the spread. Straight up away from home, they have gone 0-7. Seton Hall on the season, is averaging 63.1 points, while their defense is giving up 69.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 360th in the league, while the defense is ranked 127th in the league. This just isn’t a very talented offensive team, and that has really hurt their chances. Isaiah Coleman has been the top player, averaging 14.6 points while shooting 38.7 percent from the field. 

Can Georgetown Bounce Back? 

Georgetown, in the last game, faced off against Xavier, and they ended up losing 74-69. At halftime against Xavier they were down 30-26 and they couldn’t bounce back in the second half on the way to the defeat. Two games ago against Butler they played a lot better, scoring 73 points, and they ended up winning by three points. Even though Georgetown shot 11.8 percent from deep, hitting only two of the shots, they still were able to come out on top.

I’m on Georgetown in this game. I get the case for Xavier to be favored here, but the Hoyas for me are a team that can go toe-to-toe and match what Xavier is bringing to the table here. The Musketeers have been inconsistent in some of their recent games, and while Georgetown’s taken it on the chin in some of their recent games, this to me feels like a spread that feels a few points too big. I think this is a 3-5-point win for Xavier, so I’ll take Georgetown and the points in this matchup.

Butler didn’t look awful in the last game against Marquette but they couldn’t make the winning shots and ended up losing 78-69. Butler allowed Marquette to shoot 50.8 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from behind the three-point line. Two games ago against DePaul, Butler ended up winning 86-69. 

Butler comes into this game with a 9-12 record overall and they have gone 10-11 against the spread. The over has hit in 11 of the 21 games so far this season. Butler is averaging 73 points while their defense is giving up 72 points per game. The offense is ranked 226th in the league while the defense is ranked 203rd in the league. The defense wasn’t awful giving up 66 points, but they still didn’t have much of a shot. Malik Mack put up 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He was the only player to score in double figures and they need to get the offense going here. 

Georgetown is averaging 70.7 points while their defense is giving up 65.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 273rd in the league while the defense is ranked 32nd in the league. One issue for this team is they aren’t getting to the free-throw line. They are averaging only 10.86 free throws per game which is 338th in the league. Thomas Sorber is averaging 14.4 points while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 18.8 points per game. 

Georgetown vs Butler Prediction

Away from home, this season has been a struggle for Butler and they are going to have some major issues getting going here. Georgetown’s defense overall this season actually hasn’t been bad and they are giving up only 65.1 points per game. Butler’s offense is going to really struggle to get any sort of offense going here, and they will move to 0-6 on the road. Back Georgetown to win this game and cover the spread.

Georgetown has lost five of their last six games and they have fallen off after a very strong start to the season. The Hoyas are shooting 45.8% from the field and they have scored 64 points or fewer in three of their last five games. Georgetown hasn’t been terrible on defense this year, but they need to find more consistent offense. Georgetown Hoyas Betting Preview

The Hoyas got off to a great start this year, with only a couple of losses in the bag by the time the calendar switched over to 2025. Georgetown would hit the skids on a losing streak earlier this month, though. In their first nine outings, the Hoyas went a nice 7-2. The losses in that time were versus Notre Dame and West Virginia. Otherwise it was wins over Lehigh, Fairfield, Mount St. Mary’s, St. Francis PA, Wagner, Albany and UMBC. A win streak over Syracuse, Creighton, Seton Hall, Coppin State and Xavier came next, then four straight losses. Those defeats came courtesy of Marquette, UConn, St. John’s and DePaul in succession. Georgetown was able to stop the bleeding with a win over Villanova, giving the team a 13-6 overall record this year.

In the Villanova matchup on Monday, the Hoyas came out of the break with a 34-27 deficit. Georgetown woke up in the second half on a 37-29 run and took the comeback win 64-63 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Micah Peavey with 24 points, four rebounds and two steals. Thomas Sorber doubled up on 15 points, 11 boards and four assists, while Jayden Epps came off the bench to post 15 points, four assists and two rebounds in the win.

Providence Friars Betting Preview

Over on the Friars’ side, they opened the season on a very nice run themselves. Since mid-November however, Providence has struggled mightily, with just one instance of consecutive victories. The Friars opened with victories over Central Connecticut, Stonehill, Hampton, Green Bay and Delaware State. A 2-4 stretch came next with wins over BYU and DePaul among losses to Oklahoma, Davidson, Indiana and Rhode Island. The Friars lost to St. Bonaventure, Marquette, St. John’s and UConn in the next four, then beat Butler and Seton Hall. Since then it’s been a pair of losses to Creighton and Villanova, giving the Friars a 9-10 overall record.

Matched up against Villanova in a road game last Friday, the Friars entered the locker room with a 37-32 edge. Providence was outscored 43-36 the rest of the way however, leading to a tough loss 75-73 in the end. Bensley Joseph led the team in the losing effort with his 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Corey Floyd added 18 points with four rebounds and two assists, while Justyn Fernandez chipped in 17 points with five boards and four assists.

Why the Providence Friars will win

• Providence has won each of its last seven games against Georgetown.
• Georgetown has lost nine of its last 10 games at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
• Providence has won the first half in seven of its last eight games against Georgetown.

Why the Georgetown Hoyas will win

• Georgetown has won each of its last four day games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Providence has lost each of its last four games when playing with a rest advantage.
• The road team has won the first half in four of Georgetown’s last five games.

Providence vs Georgetown Prediction

I’ll lean toward Georgetown. The Hoyas started slowly against a decent Villanova team in their last outing, but eventually got it going in the second half. Georgetown still only shot 36.2 percent from the field with a 41-30 rebounding deficit, but helped secure the victory thanks to 16 points off 16 Villanova turnovers. The Hoyas have been below 70 points in each of their last six games (a 2-4 run), so it’d be nice to see them hit that threshold in this one. The matchup is favorable enough to do it—and Georgetown could use a convincing performance after a shaky run this month.

As for Providence, they didn’t shoot too badly (42.9 percent) in their latest loss to Villanova, but did slow down in the second half and got out-rebounded 37-31. The Friars have given up 75 or more points in three straight games, so Georgetown should have plenty of room to put up points in this one. The Hoyas really need to get that shooting percentage up and stay strong on the boards, but this should be a very winnable game for them. I like Georgetown to take advantage here.

Georgetown also just lost to DePaul at home as a six-point favorite. I doubt the Hoyas struggles are going to turnaround on the road, especially with Villanova being 10-1 SU at home. Villanova has owned Georgetown over the years with wins in nine of the last 10 games. The Villanova Wildcats are playing some of their best ball of the season right now, and they’ve covered four of their last six games as a favorite. Right when you’re ready to believe in Georgetown, it’s fallen off the wagon, and this isn’t a spot where it gets on track. I’ll lay the points with Villanova at home.

Georgetown comes into this matchup trying to snap their two-game losing streak, but they will be on the road here. The Hoyas have started the season trending in the right direction, but they need to avoid the conference collapse that we have seen from them in recent seasons. Georgetown is holding opponents to just 64.0 points per game, but they only managed to score 66 and 60 in their last two games. St. John’s has won three games in a row and they are scoring nearly 82 points per game this year. The Red Storm only have losses against Creighton, Baylor, and Georgia, and they should have a sizable rebounding advantage in this matchup. I do like how Georgetown has played this year, but I don’t trust them away from home. Take St. John’s here.

Alex Karaban is averaging 15.9 points and 5 rebounds, while Liam McNeeley is averaging 13.6 points and 2.6 assists. Solo Ball is the third double-digit scorer and Tarris Reed Jr. is grabbing 7.6 rebounds. The UConn Huskies are shooting 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 78.7 percent from the free throw line. The Georgetown Hoyas beat Xavier, lost to Marquette, and they play St. John’s, DePaul, and Villanova next. The Georgetown Hoyas are averaging 75.6 points on 47.4 percent shooting and allowing 63 points on 37.9 percent shooting. Thomas Sorber is averaging 15.1 points and 8.4 rebounds, while Jayden Epps is averaging 14.7 points and 2.1 rebounds. Malik Mack is the third double-digit scorer and Micah Peavy is grabbing 5 rebounds. The Georgetown Hoyas are shooting 31.9 percent from beyond the arc and 72.8 percent from the free throw line. The Georgetown Hoyas are allowing 32.8 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 37.2 rebounds per game.

The UConn Huskies are obviously the better team, but they’ve been shaky as of late, losing to Villanova and almost getting upset by Providence. Not having Liam McNeeley doesn’t help matters. I said in previous write-ups that the Georgetown Hoyas may be a good basketball team. Georgetown plays defense and has some guys who can take over offensively. Georgetown has beat the teams it’s supposed to beat, upset Creighton, and is 10-1 SU at home. Georgetown has also covered eight of its last 10 games overall. The UConn Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. I like Georgetown to be physical and make a game of this. Give me the points.

Georgetown Hoyas Betting Preview

This year the Hoyas got off to a 2-0 start this year, taking fairly routine wins over Lehigh and Fairfield in their first pair. Georgetown would take their first loss of the season versus Notre Dame in game three but then hit a five-game win streak afterward. Those victories were against Mount St. Mary’s, St. Francis PA, Wagner, Albany, and UMBC in succession. Loss number two came on December 6 versus West Virginia, but since then Georgetown has rattled off another five straight wins. Those victories have come versus Syracuse, Creighton, Seton Hall, Coppin State, and Xavier in order for a 12-2 start to the season for the Hoyas.

Matched up against Xavier in their Friday game, the Hoyas were looking up at a 30-24 advantage on the scoreboard at halftime. Georgetown kept the pace from there on a 39-39 second-half run and took the eventual victory 69-63. Topping the team in scoring was Malik Mack with 26 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Micah Peavey added 15 points and 10 boards with two assists for a double-double, and Thomas Sorber had 12 points with five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Leading the bench players was Jordan Burks with a modest three points, four rebounds, and one turnover in 13 minutes of work.

Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Marquette side, they opened up their 2024-25 season on a great run with wins over their first eight outings. The Eagles would dispatch Stony Brook, George Mason, Central Michigan, Maryland, Purdue, Georgia, Stonehill, and Western Carolina in succession during that time. Marquette hit a rough 1-2 stretch over their next three outings however, falling versus Iowa State and Dayton in between a nice win over Wisconsin. Since then Marquette has gotten back to business with four straight wins, however. The Golden Eagles have dispatched Butler, Xavier, Providence, and Creighton in that quartet for a solid 13-2 start to the year.

Matched up against Creighton in their last outing on Friday, the Golden Eagles were ahead by four points 39-35 going into the second half. Marquette posted another four-point advantage from there 40-36 for an eventual win 79-71. Team leader Kam Jones led the charge with 22 points with nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Stevie Mitchell added 18 points with six boards, three steals, and two assists, while David Joplin got in on the action with his 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Top bench scorer Royce Parham added eight points with a steal in 11 minutes on the floor.

Marquette vs Georgetown Prediction

I’m going to take a stab at Georgetown. This is going to be a tough matchup for the Hoyas though, and they’ll need to play extremely well in order to compete. That said, the Hoyas are coming off a decent overall effort versus a reasonably talented Xavier team, hitting 44.6 percent from the field with 40 rebounds. Georgetown wasn’t great from the line (15-of-25 for 60 percent) or the outside (4-of-18 for 22.2 percent) however, and had 12 turnovers. There’s plenty to improve upon here. That said, the Hoyas have scored 69 or more points in four of the last five games (all five were wins), so they’re certainly capable of scoring. Georgetown will need another big effort versus Marquette.

Speaking of Marquette, they didn’t shoot great versus Creighton (41.4 percent) and got out-rebounded 41-38 in the eight-point victory. The Eagles cleaned up on 12 Bluejays turnovers though, resulting in 21 points. Considering Marquette has soared 72 or more points in four straight, Georgetown will need to get their offense going—and minimize mistakes—in order to keep pace here. I think the Hoyas will eke one out.
