However, UCONN has played decent ball over the last couple of weeks, the defense has been better, and it’s healthy. Dan Hurley is able to get his guys up for tournament games, and these guys have a certain type of swagger come March.

There’s just something about UConn that makes the Huskies hard to bet against this time of year. Also, UConn has won all five games against Florida, three of which came as an underdog. We saw in 2014 when UConn beat Florida in the Final Four as a seven-point underdog. The Gators were a number one seed as well. I’m not saying UConn wins, but I want the points in my pocket.

Florida just gets the job done with a balanced attack, and is 24-8 ATS on the season. Florida also beat Alabama on the road a couple of weeks ago.

When Alabama is hitting shots and pushing the pace, the Tide can beat any team in the country, but it won’t be as easy against a Florida defense that’s top-25 in field goal percentage defense and three-point percentage defense. I’d need more points to step in front of Florida. I like the Gators to make the SEC Final.

SMU Can’t Slip Up

SMU has a solid record but this really isn’t a game they can slip up in. Two games ago against Stanford, they lost 73-68, and in the last game against Syracuse, they only won by two points. Syracuse has had struggles all season, and the fact that SMU could only win by two points had to be quite disappointing. At halftime, they were down 44-36, and even though they fought back in the second half, they still didn’t win in blowout fashion. 

SMU shot 53.6 percent from the field, but they allowed Syracuse to score 48.1 percent. Southern Methodist has a record of 22-8; against the spread, they are 14-15-1. Away from home, SMU has a 7-3 record. Offensively, they have been scoring an average of 81.5 points per game, ranking 27th in college basketball. They have averaged 72 points given up per game, ranking them 183rd defensively.

Defensively, they have allowed 72.8 points per game on average, ranking them 206th. Watkins is the top player this season, averaging 18.5 points while shooting 42.7 percent from the field.

SMU is going to put on a show here. This Virginia team isn’t the same as in years past, and Florida State managed only 57 points. I am not that concerned that this is the last home game for Flroida State, they are going to really struggle here. SMU’s offense has been strong all season, and it averages 81.5 points per game. Florida State is giving up 72.8 points per game and will give up more than that here. SMU will jump out to a fast start, and they will cruise. Back SMU against the spread. Don’t be shocked when SMU ends up winning this game by at least 10 points.

The Aggies have really relied on their defense this season, but they have allowed 86 and 77 points in their last two games. I do think Florida gets the win in this game, but I think this is too many points for a Florida team that has had some struggles in their last two games. Take A&M here.

When these two teams faced off on January 25th, it was Florida that secured the 89-59 victory. 

Georgia is ice-cold

Georgia is ice-cold heading into this game, having lost four straight games against Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Auburn. It was a tough matchup against Auburn, and they actually stuck around decently. In the second half, though, the defense gave up 53 points, which led to the defeat. Georgia shot only 38.6 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from deep. The defense had no answer for Johni Broome either, and the defense will be tested again in this game. 

Georgia overall sits with a 16-11 record, and they have gone 13-14 against the spread. The offense hasn’t been great, but the defense is ranked 82nd, and they will need the defense to step up here in a big way. If the defense struggles, this could be a very long game. Asa Newell has been the top player, averaging 15.4 points while shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from behind the three-point line. Tyrin Lawrence is dealing with an undisclosed injury, but he’s probable for this game. 

Florida Just Keeps Winning

Florida just keeps winning games, but the last game wasn’t perfect. At halftime against LSU, Florida was down 37-31, but in the second half, they outscored 48-28, which was enough for the victory. Florida shot 44.3 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from deep. They also went 10-14 from the free-throw line. Reuben Chinyelu had a huge game, putting up 19 points, 13 points, and two assists. Five different players put up at least 11 points. It’s going to need to be a balanced attack. Alex Condon missed the game with an injury, but he’s expected to be back for this game, and that’s a big boost. 

Florida has a 24-3 record overall and has gone 20-7 against the spread. As the favorite, they have gone 22-1. Florida is averaging 83.6 points, while their defense is giving up 66.3 points per game. They want to push the pace, but in the first game, the defense was actually super impressive, and this would be a chance to make another statement with the defense. Walter Clayton Jr is having a huge season, averaging 17.1 points while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from deep. I would expect Florida to try to push the pace again here.

Remember what happened the first time these two teams faced off? The Georgia offense couldn’t get anything going, and their defense couldn’t make any stops. Florida is averaging 83.6 points, and they are going to have no issue against a Georgia defense that I don’t trust. Florida is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games following an against-the-spread win, and it will be much of the same here. Florida has just too many scorers, and they will end up cruising here. Back Florida will win this game and cover the spread.

Florida Gators Betting Preview

Florida is doing great this year record-wise, with only a few scattered losses in the books so far. The Gators opened with wins over South Florida, Jacksonville, Grambling, Florida State, Florida A&M, Southern Illinois, Wake Forest, Wichita State, Virginia, Arizona State, North Carolina, North Florida and Season before a loss to Kentucky on January 4. A 5-2 run came next with losses to Missouri and Tennessee among wins over Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, South Carolina and Georgia. Since then the Gators have rattled off another five straight wins. They’ve taken out Vanderbilt, Auburn, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Oklahoma during that time, giving the Gators a 23-3 overall run through their first 26 games of the season so far.

In the Oklahoma matchup on Tuesday, the Gators came out of the locker room sporting a 46-24 halftime edge. Florida kept the pace from there on a 39-39 run and took the victory 85-63 without too much trouble. The Gators’ lead scorer was Walter Clayton with 18 points, four boards and two assists. Will Richard added 14 points with eight rebounds and two steals, while Alijah Martin put up 14 points with five rebounds and two steals off the bench.

LSU Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the LSU side, they were looking great in late December but they’ve run into all sorts of trouble during this calendar year. The Tigers went 11-2 to start things off though, taking out LA Monroe, Alabama State, Kansas State, Charleston Southern, Central Florida, Northwestern State, Florida State, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, New Orleans and MS Valley State in that time. Since then however, LSU has wins over only Arkansas, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Otherwise it’s been losses to Vanderbilt, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss and Arkansas in succession. In total that gives the Tigers an overall record of 14-12 through their first 26 games of the season.

Matched up against South Carolina in their Tuesday outing, the Tigers held a comfortable 41-27 advantage by halftime. LSU kept it up in the second on an even 40-40 run and powered out the home win 81-67 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Cam Carter with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals. Mike Williams added 13 points with one rebound in 14 minutes off the bench, while Vyctorius Miller put up 12 points with four assists and two steals.

Why the LSU Tigers will win

• LSU has won 12 of its last 15 day games at Pete Maravich Assembly Center following a home win.

LSU vs Florida Prediction

I’m going to stay with Florida in this one. The Gators are cooking right now during this five-game win streak and they’re coming off another nice win over a pretty decent Oklahoma squad. Florida shot a solid 45.2 percent from the field in that one with 36 rebounds, 13 team assists and just six turnovers. On the other side the Gators gave up just 38.8 percent shooting and scored 18 points off 13 Sooners miscues. That gives Florida 81 or more points in each of the last five games, so they’re clicking on all cylinders offensively these days.

As for LSU, they’re coming off a well-rounded win themselves over South Carolina. The Tigers posted 50 percent shooting in that one with 23 points off 18 Gamecocks turnovers. LSU did give up 47.1 percent shooting and got out-rebounded 32-28, though. Still, the Tigers have scored a combined 163 points in their last two games (both wins). LSU will need to keep that offense hot if they’re going to stay in cover territory here, and I don’t think they’ll quite do it. We may have a fairly close game most of the way, though.

Oklahoma Fell Short

Oklahoma faced off against LSU in the last game and they scored 79 points, while the defense 82 points, and that led to the defeat. In the second half, they were outscored 53-44 and that was the difference as they were knocked off. Oklahoma shot 41.7 percent from the field but only 16.7 percent from behind the three-point line. In this game, they need to try and find more success from deep. Two games ago against Missouri, they really struggled, and they ended up losing 82-58. 

Oklahoma currently sits with a 16-8 record overall and they have gone 11-13 against the spread. Away from home this season they have gone 1-5 straight up. Oklahoma overall is averaging 77.7 points while their defense is giving up 72.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 88th in the league while the defense is ranked 207th. Jalon Moore is averaging 17.2 points while shooting 49.8 percent from the field. 

Florida is For Real

Florida is for real and they have won four straight games. Two games ago against Mississippi State, they lost 81-68, and in the last game against South Carolina, they lost 88-67. In the second half against South Carolina, they scored 51 points, and they are going to need the offense to put on a show again here. Florida shot 60.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line. Denzel Aberdeen had a strong game putting up 22 points, three assists, and two rebounds. 

Florida has a 21-3 record overall and has gone 17-7 against the spread. Its offense is averaging 83.8 points, while its defense is giving up 66.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 13th in the league, while the defense is ranked 43rd. Walter Clayton Jr. has been the top player, averaging 17.2 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from behind the three-point line.
