Boise State Broncos Betting Preview

Boise State has been a pretty consistent team so far this year—outside of a rough run in January, that is. After an 11-3 start, the Broncos lost to San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico and Colorado State over the next six games. Wins over Nevada, Fresno State, UNLV, San Jose State, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah State, Fresno State, and Air Force came during the remainder of the year. Then wins over San Diego State and New Mexico in the conference tournament before a loss to Colorado State on March 1. 15. Since then it’s been a pair of College Basketball Crown wins over George Washington and Butler. That gives Boise State a 26-10 overall run through 36 games so far this year.

In the Butler matchup back on Wednesday, the Broncos jumped out to a 48-38 halftime lead. Boise State was outscored 55-52 from there but held on well enough for the win 100-93. Leading the team in scoring was Javan Buchanan with 27 points, three boards and three steals off the bench. Tyson Degenhart added 21 points with seven rebounds and five assists, while Alvaro Cardenas had 19 points with four assists in the victory effort.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

Over on the Cornhuskers’ side, they posted a couple of pretty hefty losing streaks this year amid a tough Big Ten slate. Still, Nebraska only lost two of their first 14 games versus Saint Mary’s and Michigan State. After that came a six-game losing streak versus Iowa, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, USC and Wisconsin. The Cornhuskers would go 5-1 over the next six games, falling to only Maryland during that time. The next five games were losses unfortunately, as Nebraska hit the skids versus Penn State, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State and Iowa during that time. In the College Basketball Crown games so far though, the Cornhuskers have taken out Arizona State and Georgetown. In total Nebraska has a 19-14 overal record in 33 games this year.

Matched up against Georgetown in the Wednesday game, the Cornhuskers held a 10-point edge in the locker room. Nebraska hit a 47-45 run the rest of the way and took the eventual win 81-69. Tops in scoring was Brice Williams with 28 points, three boards and three assists. Juwan Gary managed to double up on 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Andrew Morgan had 12 points with nine rebounds in 20 minutes of work off the bench.

Boise State vs Nebraska Prediction

I’m going to go with Boise State. This should be a pretty good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities, though. The Broncos notched a nice offensive effort versus Butler in their latest win, hitting a stellar 60.3 percent from the field with a 29-25 rebounding edge and just seven turnovers. Boise State did give up 57.6 percent on the other side, but the 17 points off 10 Bulldogs turnovers helped quite a bit. The Broncos have scored a combined 189 points in two College Basketball Crown games so far, which is a pleasant total after posting fewer than 63 in two of the previous three.

As for Nebraska, they shot quite well themselves (47.5 percent) in the Georgetown game. The Cornhuskers owned the boards 40-31 and hit 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) from the line. Nebraska held the Hoyas to just 39 percent shooting on the other side and controlled the game most of the way. The Huskers have scored a combined 167 points in their two College Basketball Crown games so far, so this matchup could contain a lot of fireworks. I like a competitive outing and a high total, with Boise State eking it out in the end. It’ll be a good one.

Tyson Degenhart led Boise State with 19 points and four rebounds, while Andrew Meadow added 15 points and three rebounds in the win. 

Prior to that game, the Broncos lost to Colorado State by a score of 69-56, but did beat New Mexico by a score of 72-69 before that. Boise State has won three of their last four games and they finished tied for fourth in the Mountain West standings with a 14-6 record. Boise State has scored 75.3 points per game and they have allowed 65.9 points against per game, while also averaging 36.5 rebounds and 14.5 assists per game this season. Tyson Degenhart is averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while Andrew Meadow is averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game this year. Boise State is shooting 45.9% from the field, 77.7% on free throws, and 31% on three pointers this season. 

Butler Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Butler Bulldogs are 15-19 (6-14) this season after they defeated Utah by a score of 86-84 in their last game. Butler trailed 46-42 at halftime, but they scored 44 points in the second half and got a bucket with just a few seconds left for the win. The Bulldogs shot 47.6% from the field, 40.6% on three pointers, and 65% on free throws in the game. Pierre Brooks II led Butler with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Finley Bizjack added 16 points and three assists in the win. 

Prior to that game, the Bulldogs lost to St. John’s by a score of 78-57, but did beat Providence by a score of 75-69 before that. Butler has lost five of their last seven games and they finished tied for eighth in the Big East standings with a 6-14 record. Butler has scored 74.2 points per game and they have allowed 74.1 points against per game, while also averaging 35.1 rebounds and 13.9 assists per game this season. Jahmyl Telfort is averaging 16.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, while Pierre Brooks II is averaging 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game this year. Butler is shooting 45.6% from the field, 74.2% on free throws, and 36.6% on three pointers this season.

Boise State comes into this matchup after dismantling George Washington in the second half, and they are still trying to prove a point after they felt they were snubbed from the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos had a great season in the Mountain West and their defense is very good. Butler was fortunate to get by Utah in their first game of the tournament, but I think their lack of defense is going to be the difference. Boise State is the better team from the better conference, so it makes sense the Broncos are decent sized favorites. However, this is a lot of points for two teams that haven’t played in a couple of weeks. There’s also a motivation factor, as just how badly do these guys want to keep playing?

I know nobody has complained about staying a little longer in Vegas, but I do expect some rust from both sides and that could lead to a sloppy, closer than expected score. George Washington is also an above-average defensive side across the board, which includes top-60 in scoring defense and three-point percentage defense. If George Washington can control the pace and get physical, this could be a game. Give me George Washington and the points.

What a Solid Win for Boise State

Boise State faced off against San Diego State on Thursday and they dominated the game. The offense only scored 62 points, but it doesn’t matter because the defense gave up only 52 points. At halftime, they were down, but in the second half, they gave up only 19 points, and they are going to be hard to beat when the defense is playing with that much confidence. Alvaro Cardenas Torre had a strong game, putting up 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Four different players put up at least 10 points. 

Boise State has a 23-9 overall record, and this team could be a problem for opposing teams in the NCAA Tournament. Boise State is averaging 76 points while its defense is giving up 66.3 points per game. The defense is ranked 37th, and it will need to be a strength again here, especially as the competition gets tougher. Tyson Degenhart has been the top player, averaging 17.8 points while shooting 51.7 points per game. 

New Mexico Defense Stepped Up 

New Mexico, in the last game, faced off against San Jose State, and the defense was impressive. New Mexico scored 63 points while the defense gave up only 52 points. At halftime, they were up 32-23, and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Donovan Dent was the top player, putting up 25 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Three different players ended up putting up 11 points. Two games ago against UNLV, New Mexico secured an 81-67 victory. 

New Mexico has a 26-6 record and for the most part this season the offense has been impressive. They are averaging 82.2 points while their defense is giving up 71.3 points per game. Even though they won the last game with the defense, I would expect they are going to try and push the tempo here. Donovan Dent has been the star of the show averaging 20.4 points while shooting 49.6 percent from the field. 

New Mexico vs Boise State Prediction

New Mexico and Boise State will be involved in a lower-scoring game. Both teams really stepped up with the defense in the last game, and it will be much of the same here. Boise State is giving up only 66.3 points per game, and they will have no stepping up again here. I am not sold on this Boise State offense, though, and this game will end up being lower-scoring. His game is going to struggle to reach even 140 points. Back the under to cash. This is one of my favorite plays on the entire board for Friday’s slate.

It’s not easy to beat the same team three times in a season, but that’s what’s expected of San Diego State in this spot. San Diego State beat Boise State in January on the road as a 4.5-point underdog and then smoked the Broncos in February at home, 64-47.

San Diego State is one of the best defensive teams in the country, as it’s top-20 in scoring defense, third I field goal percentage and top-30 in three-point percentage. It’s not going to get any easier when San Diego State has had time to prepare and put together an in-depth game plan. It’s the not standout in this matchup, and Boise State’s recent home loss to Colorado State rubs me the wrong way. I’ll grab the bucket with SDSU.

Boise State vs Colorado State Prediction 

Both of these teams come into this matchup playing some outstanding basketball and they are both in the top four of the conference standings, but Boise State will have the home court advantage here. Boise State has allowed 65 points or fewer in three straight games, while Colorado State has allowed 66 points or fewer in four straight games, so this should be a defensive battle. Colorado State won the first meeting with Boise State by a score of 75-72, but I don’t think we are going to see that kind of scoring in this game. Both of these teams have been very focused on defense and I like this game to go under the total.

When these two teams faced off on January 11th, Utah State secured the 81-79 victory. 

Utah State is the Real Deal 

Utah State is the real deal, and they are coming off with another big victory in the last game. Utah State scored 79 points against San Diego State, and that was enough for the eight-point victory. Dexter Akanno had a huge game, putting up 26 points and five rebounds. Three different players put up at least 18 points. It was much of the same two games ago against San Jose State, and they picked up the 105-57 victory. Five different players put up at least 11 points to pick up the win.

Utah State sits with a 24-4 record overall and away from home they have gone 7-2. Utah State is averaging 82.5 points per game and they have been running up the score against mostly everyone. One of the reasons for so much success has been the shooting, hitting 49.72 percent of their shots. Ian Martinez has been the top player, averaging 17.3 points while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from behind the three-point line. In this game, Boise State is going to need the defense to be better. 

Can Boise State Win the Third Straight Game?

Boise State has some confidence heading into this game and they have won two straight games. Two games ago against New Mexico, Boise State secured the 86-78 victory, and in the last game against Nevada, they secured the 70-69 victory. Boise State almost blew the game late, but they just held on for the victory. Forward Andrew Meadow put up 24 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Three different players put up at least 14 points. It’s going to need to be a balanced attack here. 

Boise State has a 19-8 overall record and 14-12 against the spread. Its defense has been its strength this season, and it gives up 66.3 points per game, which is 39th in the league. As a team, it shoots 47.16 percent from the field, and it has done a good job of taking efficient shots. Tyson Degenhart is averaging 18.2 points while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from deep. 

Why Boise State Will Beat Utah State

• Boise State has won each of its last nine night games at ExtraMile Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Utah State has lost five of its last six games at ExtraMile Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Boise State vs Utah State Prediction 

Give me Utah State here as underdogs. Utah State is averaging 82.5 points per game, and they are going to have no issue with running up the score here. Yes, Boise State is averaging 76.1 points per game, but I am more concerned about the defense. The first time these two teams faced off, Bosie State gave up 81 points, and their defense will struggle again, even at home. Utah State will have no issue running up the score, Boise State will have no answer, and the Aggies will get the job done. Don’t be shocked if Utah State wins this game outright. Back Utah State against the spread.

New Mexico Lobos Betting Preview

Record-wise the Lobos have done a great job this year, with only a few scattered losses in the books. New Mexico went 7-3 over their first 10 outings with losses to St. John’s, Arizona State, and New Mexico State among wins over Nicholls, UCLA, Texas A&M-CC, Grambling, Texas Southern, USC, and San Jose State. After a win streak over Western New Mexico, VCU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, Wyoming, and San Diego State, the Lobos fell versus San Jose State. Since then it’s been another win streak as New Mexico has dispatched Boise State, Fresno State, UNLV, Utah State, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming, and Utah State. That gives the Lobos a 22-4 overall record through their first 26 outings of the season.

In the Utah State matchup on Sunday, the Lobos came out of the locker room with a 42-36 deficit. New Mexico came alive in the second half on a 46-37 run though, eventually taking the win 82-79. Leading the team in scoring along the way was Tru Washington with 25 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Donovan Dent added 23 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Nelly Junior Joseph had 15 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Filip Borovicanin added 11 points with five boards and two assists.

Over on the Boise State side, they had a choppy run going last month but otherwise, they’ve done quite well themselves. The Broncos went 6-3 in their first nine with losses to San Francisco, Boston College, and Washington State among wins over Oakland, Corban College, Clemson, Hampton, South Dakota State, and Utah Tech. Boise State beat Saint Mary’s, Texas Southern, Air Force, San Jose State, and Wyoming in the next five, then hit a 2-4 run with wins over only UNLV and Wyoming. The losses otherwise in that time came versus San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico, and Colorado State. After wins versus Nevada, Fresno State, UNLV, and San Jose State, the Broncos took another loss to San Diego State. In total that gives Boise State a 17-8 overall record so far through 25 games this year.

Matched up against San Diego State in their Saturday outing, the Broncos were in trouble at the break on a 28-18 deficit. Boise State didn’t get any closer after a 36-29 second half and took the loss at the end 64-47. Tyson Degenhart was the team’s only double-digit scorer, notching 17 points with 12 boards and one assist. Alvaro Cardenas added eight points and three assists in 39 minutes, while Pearson Carmichael put up seven points off the bench.

Boise State vs New Mexico Prediction

I’m going to lean toward the Lobos. New Mexico got off to something of a slow start in their latest win over Utah State, but everything worked out in the end. The Lobos shot 46.2 percent from the field with a 35-27 rebounding advantage, but it was a sloppy game overall. New Mexico committed 14 of the 28 total turnovers, which turned into 19 Utah State points. That makes eight straight wins for the Lobos now, with 71 or more points scored in each game.

New Mexico kicked off this current win streak with an 84-65 victory over Boise State in a home matchup back on January 17. The Cowboys just stifled a really solid Nevada team that just came into their building and held them to 63 points and I think Wyoming could do the same here. I’m not sure that Wyoming pulls off the outright upset here, but I do think the Cowboys make this one competitive and that it could come down to who takes the final shot. Give me Wyoming and the points in this one.
